Re: EWWW...is anyone watching primetime???
yes, it is mormonism and polygomy...girls forced to marry at 13. this is sad. no movie theatres, computers or music. girls can't cut their hair, they must wear clothing that comes up the neck. girls can be ordered to marry a total stranger who is 40 years older. ugh.they are required to have a child a year as her duty. this is sick!

Re: EWWW...is anyone watching primetime???
wow, from polygomy to rape...the last segment was heavy. That woman was so brave. wow.
DH is from a small dessert town in AZ and there are big Mormon and JW populations here as well...nothing like this town of course...
the woman at the end was really so inspiring!!!!

Wow... I missed this, and I'm glad I did! Yikes.
Just read a really fascinating and scary book about fundamentalist Mormons though, if anyone is interested in learning more on the subject. It's called _Under the Banner of Heaven_ and was written by Jon Krakauer (same guy who wrote _Into Thin Air_ and _Into the Wild_). He's a great writer and seems to be very careful in his research.

Re: EWWW...is anyone watching primetime???
This is the type of behavior that is commonplace in this city....It literally gives me the chills!
1) Older men being taught to take CHILD BRIDES before the girls are attracted to boys their own age. 2) BOYS DRIVEN OUT of the community for competing with older men for wives. 3) Plural wives expected to apply for WELFARE as single mothers. 4) Men out of favor are 'EVICTED' from their homes with their wives and children reassigned to a more compliant man. 5) Community members AFRAID TO DISOBEY the 'Prophet' out of fear for their eternal salvation

Re: EWWW...is anyone watching primetime???
I saw the first story, about the guy w 15 wives in that huge house. It was so sad how they asked the little boy how many brothers and sisters he had, and he said 'I dont know'. The man they are all married to is estimated to have 75 kids!! Can you imagine? I want to know how he has time to make all that money to afford that HUGE house and time to make all those kids
It amazes me that in 2004 people live like that. I got so disgusted I turned on the show about Princess Diana

Re: EWWW...is anyone watching primetime???
As the governments of Utah and Arizona pursue leaders for human rights violations, welfare fraud, extortion, and misappropriation of public funds for schools, etc., it is rumored that prophet Warren Jeffs will escape to Mexico with a small group of followers. The other leaders he excommunicated in early 2004 are positioning to take over, and they too believe in the One Man doctrine. With the upheaval, law enforcement is ready for the violence that may occur.
ETA - found this while reading up on this very un-nerving topic...as you can see - this show really shook me up. yikes!
