Excellence Riviera Cancun???

FH and I just got back from the TA and after discussing many options, we decided to go with Excellence Riviera Cancun in Puerto Morales.

Upon coming home, we went on trip advisor to read the reviews which have been pretty mixed. It's been disheartening as well as nerve wracking to say the least. The last thing I want for my honeymoon is a dirty, run down room (one of the common complaints). Or even worse an ant problem.

On the other hand, there were many positive reviews. A lot of people who came back because their first stay was so enjoyable. The resort looks gorgeous and the beach as well. I'm more concerned with how well the rooms are maintained.

I'm hoping there will be a LIW girl out there that could put my mind at ease and give me any feedback on this resort. TIA!

We are not going there, but I have heard great reviews about the place. We actually decided on Excellence Playa Mujeres which just opened up in November and it has even better reviews. The resort has more of a modern look with the same amenities as the excellence Riviera. I am sorry I am not able to help much

I am excited too!!! We got the terrace room what about you?

We booked our HM there and have heard good things about it. We actually know two couples who went there for their HM within the last two years and loved it. In fact one of the couples even went back for their 1 yr anniversary. Seeing their HM pics and talking to them about their experience there sold us on this place. Don't let a few negative reviews get you down. I noticed those negative reviews too, but FH reminded me that most places will have some and that we trust the recommendations of the people we know. Hope this helps

We stayed there ebfore the split when it was SECRETS Excellence and it was FABULOUS. We loved it so much we booked with the one in Punta Cana and loved it even more.

The way to handle trip advisor is to look at the negative reviews as to the content and see WHAT they're complaining about. We saw some mixed reviews but generally it was the same silly stuff: that people went after a hurricaine and found seaweed or that the rooms were slightly musty after rain or something. Unelss the reviews seem to have real merit, i would focus on the good ones if there are more of those.

As far as the run down rooms, I WILL say that some people's standards are a little off. I eman it ahs been 3 years since we went but we noticed right after the split from secrets and excellence that people were giving bad reviews claiming it was going downhill now due to 'change of management' and frankly, we had the BEST TIME at Punta Cana and supposedly they were one of the hotels 'suffering from leck of management'. We founfdthem to be on point and they made sure we were happy. The concierge desk was also really fluent in english which was great for DH.

Some people are just miserable so thats why I say look at the reviews carefully and if the good outweigh the bad, take a chance. I remember reading one review where the woman claimed a maid stole her La Perla thong...now REALLY????? WTH! Mexico is POOR but I can assure you they would rather steal penneis than panties if they have a choice.

FYI, we left money for our maid and she would not touch it the 4 times she went in there to clean until I physically put it into her hands and said that it was for her. I got a big hug that day.

Thats another thing. we found the peopel so grateful for any little tip. You dont have to of course but we gave our regular poolside drink girl a five and she hooked us up. Brought the drink refills so fat we got wasted in under 2 hours lol. VERY sad but yea-the staff is wonderful.

If the room is awful, just ask to change and they will change you. We met people on botht rips who asked and it was no problem.

I can tell you that those people will fix any issue you have,. They're sooooo accomodating. FM me for more info or if you want to see pics.

Our room:
(I will say this-asking for an oceanfront view is kinda eh unelss you're going to be a whole lot to be upgraded to the best rooms because we asked for ocean and we got a piece of ocean but it was mostly the resort and in the distance ocean. It wasn't worth the extra money. We decided we'll reserve 'ocean view' for somewhere on the water like if we go to tahiti. Just an FYI.) BUT the room was huge and gorgeous. Much niecr than the Punta cana resort in that respect.

LOVED the toilet and shower. Unlike Punta Cana, they ahd the toilet in its seperate cubby and the shower was HUGE! Bench in there and everything for sitting in your own mini sauna.

They had pool tables under canopies so you could play even if it was raining out and you needed an activity.

the spa blew the one in Punta Cana out of the water-state of the art inside. PHENOMENAL.


Pools: they had 9? and almost all of them interconnected so you could just float from one to the other.

It was between this resort and Sandals St. Lucia. I feel we're getting more for our money by booking mexico not to mention we're able to stay an extra night for the same price St. Lucia would have been.

I am also going there for my HM in 10 days!! I am like you and got worried about some of the negitive reviews but I am no longer looking at that site!! lol. Like the other girls said, many people have different standards and everything that those people were complaining about were not major issues. Look, it's your Honeymoon - you are going to have a great time! For me and my FH - we are not 'world travelers', we do not stay in 5 star hotels every year at different parts of the world, I know this is going to be like heaven on earth to us. Some of those 'bad' reviews start off like 'we travel all over the world and stay at the top hotels........ the waitress took 10 minutes to get our drink!!!' Don't stress those sites. Make your own impressions- don't let some old hags make them for you

I went there for my honeymoon, and we had a great time.

However, there were bugs ALL OVER THE ROOM! And we complained twice, and they still didn't do anything about it.

Also, they lost the records of it being our honeymoon, so the honeymoon amenities were not given to us until the second day.

Otherwise, it's nice and relaxing.
