Exercise Question?

Okay so let's say I only have a half hour to work out one day - am I better of doing 30 minutes of cardio?

Or should I do my toning routine (15 minutes of abs and 15 minutes on arms)

to get quicker results.

TIA!

Re: Exercise Question?

How about alternating days? Or doing 15 min of cardio a day and 1 day abs, 1 day arms>?

Re: Exercise Question?

I like the cardio better. They say it is better for you also. That is just my opinion.

Re: Exercise Question?

If you need to lose pounds, do cardio, if you just want to tone up, do weight training.

well my usual routine (ideally when i have time) is 30 minutes of cardio, 15 minutes on arms, 15 minutes on abs and then 20 minutes doing yoga for flexibility.

But some days i dont have enough time for all that so i dont do anythign at all - which i am trying to change and just pick one thing to do for about 30 minutes.

Re: Exercise Question?

Skip the cardio, but workout more than just arms and abs. It's not the time that's imporant, its what you do with it. Lifting is going to burn calories, more so than you think, so don't worry about not doing cardio if you don't have time. The more muscles you get involved, the more calories you will burn.

Re: Exercise Question?

well when i only have 30 mins i do my arms with weights and do abs. But i guess maybe its good to alternate and sometimes do that and other times do cardio.

Re: Exercise Question?

For me if I only had 30 minutes I would do cardio. But that really depends on the person and what you are looking for.

Re: Exercise Question?

I would also just do some intense cardio if I only have 30 minutes. But thats just me....im obsessed with cardio. But you'd be surprised at how many calories you can burn lifting weights and doing toning exercises. I would alternate if I were you.

Re: Exercise Question?

yeah guess depends on what you are looking for...i am specifically looking just for my abs and arms...my legs i dont need at all so dont need to target that area...For me i want to tone up and get my stomach hard not just lose the weight and same with my arms, alot of cardio worksouts i dont feel like i am getting a great workout for my arms. I feel its better for me to target just my arms and spend about 15-20 mins at least doing that.

Re: Exercise Question?

I would think it would be best to mix it up, like if your working out 5 days in the week do 3 cardio 2 toning.
The more your muscles are toned the faster your body's metabolism works. However work big muscle groups like your chest (push ups) and legs as well (lunges etc...)

Yeah, that's pretty much the best solution if you don't have a lot of time. And she's right on about working large muscles groups. If you work the big muscles, you almost don't have to work the smaller ones, unless you really want to get buff. The only reason I do bi's and tri's with my clients is because it makes them feel better.
