Re: Experience with *m**i**a*
Wow, I would never spend money on someone who provides this type of service.... how could she do that to brides? After all the money she charges, she should be focused on the bride and not on the phone.... wow

Re: Experience with *m**i**a*
Itseems to me that there are 3 conclusiions on this thread.
1. She DOES do incredible work.
2. She does make the bride a priority
BUT
3. She is coming across as VERY unprofessional because she is always on the phone and texting.
But her work has really never been an issue.
I say be direct. Dont say 'I have read things on LIW'. But if she is on the phone ask her to get off.
I prefer direct myslef.
And if brides can deal with this knowing it BEFOREHAND, then forewarned is fairwarned.

Re: Experience with *m**i**a*
i actually had a similar experience with her-i had booked a trial, although it took me 2 weeks to find a date that worked...i was then told the day before that she would have to finish me by 715 in the morning, and otherwise she would have to send someone from her team..i felt her business skills were highly lacking

I''m so sorry that happened to you. If you would like a solid recommendation, Roseanna Amador is the most talented hair stylist I've ever seen and is SUPER professional. I had the most wonderful experience at my hair trial. I had just wanted to do the one style but SHE insisted we do at least 2-3 more styles!
Pics in my album and FM if you have any questions. Good luck!

Re: Experience with *m**i**a*
I, too, had a similar experience. When I went for my hair trial, m-i-a was constantly being interrupted by phone calls, her children walking around the salon, and friends dropping by. What should have taken an hour for a hair trial, took almost 3 hours.
The day of my wedding, m-i-a sent over two assistants and they arrived very promptly at 8am. One of them is actually a vendor on here, I think. Her name is Elena, if that helps...maybe Bridal Touch? Anyway, she was sooo sweet and her work was great. All of my girls looked fabulous. She did answer the phone, but only once and she immediately got off the phone. The other assistant was okay. I don't want to say anything negative about her because she was pregnant, so she was feeling nautious and dizzy. Basically, she had to sit down while doing everyone's hair. She didn't answer the phone at all and she has 4 kids at home.
1030 rolls around and there is still no m-i-a. So, I ask one of them, 'When is m-i-a supposed to arrive?' So one of them says, 'Oh, she said 11am.' First of all, when I booked with her, I assumed that she would be with me all morning. Anyway, so 11 rolls around, still no m-i-a. Finally, she gets to my house at 1130...and yes, talking on the phone. She had 3 hours to do 4 girls' makeup and my hair. Well, because she arrived late, the photographer was twiddling her thumbs for an hour because she hadn't finished my hair. My bridemaids were shoving food down my mouth while I was getting my hair done because there was no time to eat. Because we were so pressed for time, Elena had to jump in and start curling my hair, while m-i-a did my makeup, (which did come out beautiful, the makeup, that is). By the time she finished, we had about 20 minutes for pictures(which should have been an hour). In addition, my hair did not come out the way I had asked her to do it, but there was no time to fix it. M-i-a only answered her phone once from what I can remember...from her sister. It was a 1 minute phone call and that was it.
When I got to the reception hall, three or four curls of hair had completely gone flat and it looked ridiculous. The bridal attendant had to recurl my hair for me. I'm not sure if that was m-i-a's fault though, as my hair is pin straight. In m-i-a's defense, it was very humid that day as well.
Would I book again with her? Hmmm...I would really have to think about it.

So afer reading all of the replies, it seems some girls she did a great job on and others...not so much. I hope I'm one of the ones she does a great job on since I'm getting married in 29 days.

I wish I could let you know because I'm booked with her on the 4th. I will say she did my hair and makeup for a friend's wedding (when normally she would've had an assistant do mine but since I had her booked for my wedding she made an exception) that it came out awesome and I was VERY happy...I'll add a pic when I dig one out :)

Re: Experience with *m**i**a*
I know there are alot of mixed reviews about her.. but I personally love her and am so excited she is doing my hair and makeup on my wedding day. I just had my second trial and she was on time and professional. My first trial she was a little late but it was a freaking blizzard outside so thats obviously understandable.

If she doesn't shape up, it doesn't matter HOW good she is, she's gonna F up her business.
She should NOT bite the hand that feed her.

Re: Experience with *m**i**a*
I know a lot of girls have had an experience, however, mine was wonderful. I booked on the spot, and she came highly recommended. I actually refer others to her, and i don't do that to often, only b/c I like to recommend what I feel is worth it. My make up lasted for almost 20 hours, and survived the humidity of a night club, and a nice nap on the train.
A lot of people I know think she does a fantastic job. She is worth it. Things happen, and yes, they can be very unprofessional, but with any business, there will always be flaws. I think honestly, that most of us have nothing to worry about. If things bother you for whatever reason, you should talk to her. Address those issues with her (or any vendor), and let your DOC (if you have one) know also whats going on. Also, you can ask her to add things to your contract if that makes you feel better. Its always better to have things in writing.
If you dwell on the bad, the bad will come. That's why its better to be pro-active and stay professional on your end, and say what you expect. Its your money, you expect quality. And if you speak up about your expectations, trust me, she'll listen. IMO, this is the best way of handling a situation like this.

yes thats how i feel exactly. i did not post this to make the girls that are booked with her nervous, but just to share my experience, because i had read so many mixed reviews but loved her work. I was honestly very shocked that it turned out the way it did, and for me personally she is not the right person, i did not feel for the amount of money im spending i got the service that should have been provided.

Re: Experience with *m**i**a*
I am sorry you had this experience. I had a smililar one with m*i*a. I drove an hour to get to her salon and she showed up 1 1/12 later. No joke. She did my trial and unlike many others... i did not like it at all. I felt like a drag queen. I decided to do a RE trial with her because of all the rave reviews she was getting and once again i was disappointed. And then she wouldnt return my deposit.
i just want to let everyone know that there are other great make up artist out there who are professional. I used Laura Alloca who was recommended to me by my hair stylist Nicole D'angio. Laura was professional and above everything, i loved the way she did my make up. I looked like a bride. I love makeup and wear it daily....laura made me look like myself but just glowing and picture ready. FM me for more info.
Best of luck girls

Re: Experience with *m**i**a*
WOW so not only the phone but the lateness too. The phone is one thing.. but the lateness happening on so many occasions is another.
Her inconsistencies are just unsettling. It's like a gamble with her apparantly.
And this is why I didn't even think twice about not booking her for even just at trial.
