But mine doesn't need maintenance, it is oily all by itself? Even when I went on vaca. to the desert?
But some people want to try to change their skin to normal and control the level of oiliness (sp) and shine. .
I still don't get it. To lessen my oiliness I should moisturize?
I go to a dermatologist who gives me prescription creams, I am just curious about the rationale of treating oil with more oil. I would look like an oil slick!

whats the best for dry skin?
I don't know, I guess just regualr sunscreen? I usually just use non-comedogenic because it doesn't clog pores and I have the skin of a 13-year-old.

Re: Face Moisturizer?
I have normal to dry skin and I use Aveda moisturizing lotion. I heard that moisturizing helps prevent wrinkles.

Jan05Bride... if you're worried about your skin just make sure you wear sunscreen on your face with a minimum SPF of 15.
They have non-comedogenic and oil-free sunscreens that would be better for oily skin.
I'm seriously worried about looking like a raisin in a few years!
ETA: I've always had bad skin ... when do I get to have nice porcelain skin???? Maybe I should see a dermatologist instead of self moisturizing!

Re: Face Moisturizer?
[ Not all 'moisturizers' moisturize. I misused the word moisturizer. I just meant that when I worked in the industry that there was a 'moisturizer' for every type of skin. You already use something so you wouldn't need a 'moisturizer'

Re: Face Moisturizer?
I read somewhere that even oily skin needs moisturizer because sometimes your skin produces the oil to make up for not getting proper moisture. I know I didn't phrase it correctly, let me see if I can find the article.
I have oily skin and I use a moisturizer from clean and clear that has salicylic (sp?) acid in it to help breakouts. My skin really has been less oily since using it. (oil free dual action moisturizer)
Heres' something from Neutrogena:: First, determine if you have oily skin. Consider how your skin looks and feels without moisturizer one hour after being cleansed. If you see shine all over and your skin feels comfortable, you have oily skin. Your skin needs moisture to function at its best. Even oily skin can have low moisture levels. That’s why it’s important to use a moisturizer no matter what your skin condition is. For oily skin, be sure to use a moisturizer that’s oil-free and non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores).

Re: Face Moisturizer?
I have combination skin. In the winter months it tends to be more dry. I change up my moisturizer every few months. Right now I am using Neutrogena Anti- Wrinkle for my face and neck and Clinque firming cream for the eyes.

Same here Aveda moisturizer and I have dry skin.
I cleanse, tone and then moisturize my face in the morning. I can see and feel a huge difference in my skin.

That is just what I was going to say. OIL is not the same as WATER. You are suppossed to use a moisturizer to hydrate your skin. You should wash your face then add the mositurizer right away. For oily skin you should look for non-comedogenic, oil-free, fragrance-free, Lotion or Gel. You should also be careful about using harsh astringents on oily skin - avoid alcohol-... if you strip the skin completely of the oils your skin cells may overcompensate for the loss of oils resulting in even oilier (sp?) skin! You should use oil based cleansers with HOT water, but don't wash too much. Also look for salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide on the label of your moisturizer. hth and BEth FM me if you have any questions.

I've never used one. My face is oily enough.
That's how I feel and this person was like, 'no, no, no, everyone must moisturize. even if you have oily skin, you need a non-oily moisturizer.' So now I'm lost.
But why if your skin isn't dry? I've heard that before too but I don't understand it. It's like telling someone with dry skin to use an astringent.
I just wanted to let you guys know what my demo. told me. Even with oily skin it is still very important to use moisterizer. When you don't, your glands over compensate and produce even more oil making your skin oiler. I use Oil of Olay Special Effects...it doesn't make my skin oiler and absords really fast. Just make sure you get one that is oil free.
