Sooo much publicity over this movie. DH went last night with his friends and was infuriated after he came home. He insists he'll never vote for Bush and he is disgusted at what the government has done.
He said it's more about how the administration hid things and terrorists after 9-11, not so much about the trade center.
Now I'm curious and want to go!

Ah, I didnt like the movie. Just like the media we only see what 'Michael Moore' wants us to see. This world is so messed up I dont know if Kerry would be any better???? I dont like this stuff wish it was simple. I would def rec to see it though.

I think that everyone needs to keep an open mind when going to see a movie like this. There are three sides to every story... the two sides you hear and the truth. Please keep that in mind.

Well put - two sides and the truth.
Most of what I've seen lately on the movie however, is showing how many of the points made in the movie are far from the truth but are used to imply they are the truth. Like his clip with the CNN newscaster saying how Gore really won the election, but he leaves out the flipside, that a later study by CNN and the NY Times both showed that no matter how you recounted the votes, Bush clearly won. His spin on it leaves you thinking that Gore was the clear winner when that was proven not to be true - it's his version of revisionist history.

Did he let MM's POV completely influence his decsion? Before he takes everything said by MM as absolute gospel he should look into the facts and make a more informed decision.
For so many of the facts that MM puts forth as true there are facts that dispute exactly what he's saying (see my post above) and the clearly dangerous thing about his so-called documentary is that it's as much or more propaganda for his POV as it is truth. People are walking out of the theater singing the praises of MM for opening their eyes without having all the facts - kind of like a Hitler youth rally - just as scary.

the same can be said about bush, the administration, and the main stream media...

i think the Hitler comparison is scary - i think the religious right is much more 'dangerous' than any MM 'followers' could ever be.
i personally would never draw my conclusions from one person, one film, but i am so happy it is spurring debates that should have been taking place all along...

Re: Farenheit 911 movie
I don't think MM is anymore biased to his POV than the news media. And whether or not you adopt his ideas and claims wholesale, there are things that are absolute fact that the general public would not have known if not for the movie..and yes, finally, the movie has VERY little in it specifically dealing with 9/11. You don't have to watch the towers burning for the millionth time, it's not in there. It's more about large scale corruption..
I honestly don't think MM is taking an opinion that's very extreme, and he doesn't quite make the connections he may or may not be asking us to make. I don't think he wants us to come out believing that Bush planned 9/11 or anything like that. but like a lot of things, there's a wink in that direction, and I think it's all just there to make you think and wonder and question the things we know as truths. A lot of people want to believe in the president and trust him completely and hope that he has our best interests at heart, I don't think we're expected to all hate him, but it makes that foundation of blind trust shake, and I think that's essential to any democracy.
Personally, I didn't vote for Bush in the first election, needless to say I won't vote for him again. I don't like him. I can't go into much detail or the FBI might riad my home, but I don't like him, I would never vote for him, and there is just no justification for the War in Iraq.
I can't stress enough how the media painted our minds about the simplest things about Iraq. We think it's this bacjwrd desert. In reality, Baghdad looks a lot like NY and before the war people lived very normal lives. In a part of the movie I think everyone should see, they're showing footage of everyday iraqi citizens talking on the street, kids playing ball and flying kites, all interspersed with Rumsfeld talking about how we need to Save and Free them. After that, after our efforts to save and free these people (who were basically fine for the msot part before), then we see they city on fire and dead children laying around. That doesn't look very free to me. There is just no justification for any of it.

You really think the Iraqi people were 'basically fine' while Saddam was in power?

As far as living their every day lives, going to school, and going to work, eating, sleeping, not being blown up, yes, they were fine. I know people who live in baghdad. They didn't ask for this occupation and it turned their normal, everyday, productive lives upside down. It takes 10x as long to get to work each morning, women are afraid to leave thier houses because there is so much violence on the street now that the normal police structure is disrupted. People have shoddy electrical power at best and have to walk through once clean streets that are now filled with raw sewage.

Re: Farenheit 911 movie
I am hoping that this movie really sheds to light the cronyism that is going on in Iraq- how Iraq was basically just a place for Bush and his friends to run the show & make money.
They went in there with privatization of Iraq's resources #1 on their minds... and it's no stretch of the truth that Paul Bremer lists reduced tax rates, reduced tarrifs and liberalization of foreign investment laws among his MAIN successes in Iraq. NOT TO MENTION- Bremer's last top aide for private development in Iraq, none other than Michael Fleischer- Ari's brother... wonder how HE got the job of educating Iraqi business men.
So was Saddam a horrible man? Yes, of course he was- but do I believe in my heart that is why we went over there- to help the poor, repressed Iraqi people? No- because if that WAS the truth we'd be in Sudan right now- where an estimated 30,000 people have been slaughtered, and 1 million are displaced- instead of Powell having a press junket there.

I agree wholeheartedly. I think Saddam being a tyrannical dictator is completey beside the point in this war. It has nothing to do with that.
The movie does expose a lot of the cronyism going on in today's polirics and middle eastern policy

Sure, as long as one of the 12 year old girls wasn't picked up on her way to school to be brought to Qusay for his raping and killing pleasure. Other than that, things were great.

Re: Farenheit 911 movie
I'm not saying terrible things didn't happen to some people, but this war has caused wholesale debilitation to people who for the most part lived normal everyday lives.
The bottom line is, the american occupation of iraq had nothing to do with genocide or rape or murder...it had to do with oil, money and cronyism...There are plenty of palces in the world that are worse off than iraq who we could have maybe actually helped, but they don't have oil.

well said. its an eye opener to the point of view we rarely see. the one that our government doesnt want us to see. the one that our government fought to keep us from seeing.

I think that people see what they want to and that's part of the reason this movie is doing so well. People were looking for someone to step up and say the things Michael Moore did and as soon as he did, regardless of the lack of proof and credibility in a lot of it, everyone is latching on with all their might. While I LOVE that this movie has spurred debates, unfortunately many times they're uninformed debates. JMO.

Re: Farenheit 911 movie
Everyone is outraged at what they perceive as corruption in our government yet I don't hear any outcry about the corruption in the UN Food for Oil program. I wonder how that will all wash out in the end - it sounds like there were a lot of corrupt UN officials and the French aren't smelling so good in this either. Initial reports are that Saddam was using money from the program to build palaces, buy expensive cars etc. There are corrupt officials all over.
