My father passed away not to long ago and I am getting married next year. My mother is now going to walk me down the isle, however I am having a real hard time finding a song for her and I, any suggestions?? Also... has anyone elses father pass away prior to them getting married, if so did you do anything to honor him on your wedding day? I am thinking about releasing a white dove... thanks..

Re: father daught dance?
I'm just an MOH here to support my identical twin sis KarinAmanda BUT our father passed away 4 years ago and I know she has some really special plans to remember him during the reception. Our Mom is walking her down the aisle and then she's having a photo montage instead of a father/daughter dance at the reception.

Re: father daught dance?
I am so sorry for your loss. My father passed away in April so I understand completely.
I'm having my mom walk me down the aisle. I'm having a memorial (candle and photo of my dad) during the ceremony. I'll then burn that candle all night on our dais so he's with me....
as for the dance, I'm not strong enough. I can't do it with my mom. It will be too hard. She and I are going to leave the RH for a few while FH dances with his mom. i can't take that from him but I'm not strong enough to watch.
Whatever you do, just know, your dad will be there...

My dad passed away 6 years ago but its still hard...im thinking also of doves or a memory candle and instead of favors we are making a donatiom, my brother is walking me down, I dont know if I would be able to handle my mom , and as for a dance it might be me and my brother and my mom join in or nothing at all....

I am also sorry for your loss! See, I 'think' I will be strong enough for the dance with my mother.. however to see my dad's picture, will make me cry throughout my entire wedding. I have thought about that and I keep going back and fourth with different idea's... I don't want to make it hard on my mother or my dad's father and family.... I think by having his picture displayed will make others sad.... Maybe not.... I don't know... Im just so confused... thanks for your feedback.

Re: father daught dance?
my Man of Honor Joey, bought me a star in memoriam of my father for Christmas, so I will have that there, with a candle and of course tons of pics of me and him at the reception!! Just like he'll be there in person!
which I'm sure he will be..

Re: father daught dance?
My father just passed away in August. I can't believe I'm writing about it here, its really painful. I'm so sorry for all of your losses as well. FH's Mom passed away when he was 18. I don't know what we are going to do. My mom is walking me down, his dad is walking him down, I think we are going to do without the dances. Dancing with my brother won't be the same. Me dancing with his dad and him dancing with my mom seems odd to me (several people suggested that) -- I think we are just going to have our first dance together, and forgo those other dances. I do plan on having a photo montage, but not instead of the dances -- before my dad passed I had planned on doing the traditional photo montage of each of us growing up with our families, and then us together as a couple. We'll still do that, and make sure that there are plenty of pictures of both our parents.

Re: father daught dance?
You all have very good ideas with the pictures... I don't think I would be able to handle that... I was going to have my son give me away but my mother pleaded with me that she do so... she said it would be her and my dad's hands releasing me... I cried so much! I love the song choices that you all have listed... thanks so much

Re: father daught dance?
I am releasing white doves. I will also have a picture of him at the wedding next to the candle from the church that will be lit the entire night. Also Jeff and I will dance to a song in memory of him.

Re: father daught dance?
Wow i felt like i was reading about myself. My father just passed away this June and i am getting married in July. I am too walking down with my mother but i am going to do a dance with my Uncle(my dad's brother). I am also going to get a memorial candle to put in the hall maybe by my wedding cake so it is lite all night to symbolize him being there. I know how hard it is because nothing feels right as it would if he was there. We just have to think what is going to make him smile on that day. I might dance to the song 'I hope you dance' i feel as though that song is asking for you to keep going and not to give up on faith and i know my dad would want me to dance and smile on that day. If i find any other songs i will def. let you know. Stay strong.

Re: father daught dance?
Hi... I'm in the same boat as you. Both FH and I lost our dad's. He lost his 18 years ago. I lost my dad almost 2 and a half years ago. My mom is walking me down the aisle and I think I might have my brother dance my father/daughter dance. I'm not positive yet. FH and I both want to do something in honor of our dad's but we don't want to make the whole event really sad. We are doing an in memory section in the program, memory candle, and the officiant is going to say a few nice words but she's keeping it very simple, so that everyone doesn't start crying. I think a white dove would be a really nice gesture. Good luck with everything. If you need to talk, please FM me...

I feel the same way as you. I want to incorporate my dad into as much as I can-but I also don't want to be crying throughout the whole day. I don't know what to do sometimes either. It's so hard. I don't even think I'm going to be able to get through the day without losing it. I never in a million years thought my dad wouldn't be here to walk me down the aisle or to share all of the planning with.

Re: father daught dance?
It's actually helps for me to see all the women on here that have had similiar situations.
My dad passed away three years ago for Lymphona-Hodkins (blood cancer) and I have been weepy about the whole father of the bride thing since we got engaged. My mom is walking me down and recently she agreed to dance with me (because I didn't want to feel cheated out of that moment).
So far I like the song Blessed-by Elton John. As we enter the ceremony I am going to have a memory candle placed so that me and my mother can light before we walk down. I also plan to have a locket with his picture in my bouquet. The Pastor is also going to mention him briefly in the beginning. Nothing too sad but just little ways to honor him. good luck...FM if you need anything.
