Father daughter dance without a father?

Original post by AdriandSteve

I realistically don't need to worry about this for awhile but it's not the easiest decision.

My father passed away when i was 12. I have a few options as to who would walk me down the aisle but what about the father daughter dance. Would it be weird and awkward if my FH and his mom had their mother son dance and then that was it, move on to the next dance set or something?

Anyone in a similar situation?? Thoughts??

Do you have sisters or brothers?

My sisters husband was in the same situation so instead he invited his sisters on the dance floor and played 'we are family' and they huddled in a circle and danced and then everyone else followed. It kept it upbeat.

No brothers and sisters.

What i can think of is dance with whoever walks me down the aisle and the halfway through dance with my mom (if she wants which i'm not sure she will)

I'm in the same situation. I'm having my uncle walk me down the aisle but I'm not really sure what to do for the father/daughter dance. So I'm not much help sorry.

I did get a great idea from one of the brides on this website about having a locket with a picture of my dad tied into my bouquet. Just a thought

I'm walking down the aisle half way and FH is meeting me and we are walking the rest together. I'm not having a Father/Daughter dance at all. I was thinking of a :'Thank you for everyone who had came to celabrate and have everyone on the dance floor dancing to Celabration by Kool and the Gang,

I also walked down the aisle about 3/4 of the way and DH met me...and we walked the rest of the way to the altar together.

We didn't have a Father/Daughter dance.

My DH danced with his Mom.

My dad died when I was 14. There is nobody I am closer to me than my mom, so I had her walk me down.

We skipped the 2 dances altogether.. nobody missed them. We did an anniversary dance instead, it was fun for everyone

I do not have a father. My mom walked me down the aisle and we danced a mother/daughter dance and it was amazing...tears all around. lol. I have 3 married sisters and we all did the same at our weddings...and there were tears at every wedding.

PS..my father didn't pass away-he just 'isn't around'.

My uncle is walking me down the aisle but I think for the father daughter dance, I will not even have one..I think that it will be too emotional for me and my mom to dance plus I am not sure..my dad is not a part of my life and I get like stomach aches thinking of trying to figure it out so I might cut it out all together

My brother did this!! Our mom passed away almost 10 years ago and he didnt want to dance with my gma so there was only a father/daughter dance with my SIL and her dad.

I really don't think you have to do a dance

you most certainly don't have to do a dance. people understand.

IMO, you can do whatever you want. DH's mother died when he was a teenager...he danced with his sister at our wedding... it was very touching. and at the same sister's wedding, she danced with her brother (my DH), even though their father is alive! My FIL walked her down the aisle, but my DH in so many ways, was like a mother and father to her after their mother died and he danced with her at her wedding. everyone cried.

I didn't read through all the responses but what I did was my mom walked me down the aisle and danced with me. We dedicated our dance to my dad and it was one of his favorite songs....it was very nice

My husbands mother passed away when he was younger. He didnt want to dance with anyone so we just skipped the mother/son dance. Its up to you.

what about a dance with your mom? it is alright just to do FH and mom, but this is another option too. my dad passed also. I have a step dad too. I danced with my mom and had my step dad cut-in.

I was in that same situation too. I danced with my mom and it was actually really nice. I know it really meant alot of her and to be incredibly honest there were some very emotional moments (especially depending on what song you use) but I wouldn't have done it any other way.

I don't think there is anything wrong with just skipping that dance. Have you thought about dancing with your mom? My friends father passed away about 15 years ago, they both danced with their mom on their wedding day. There are 3 sisters....so after a few minutes ofjust dancing with mom, the other sisters joined in..there wasn't a dry eye in the place!!
