Father daughter dance without a father?

Original post by AdriandSteve

I realistically don't need to worry about this for awhile but it's not the easiest decision.

My father passed away when i was 12. I have a few options as to who would walk me down the aisle but what about the father daughter dance. Would it be weird and awkward if my FH and his mom had their mother son dance and then that was it, move on to the next dance set or something?

Anyone in a similar situation?? Thoughts??

I am in the exact same situation, my father passed away when I was 16 and so I am faced with a similar decision. The advice that I have been given that seems most comforting to me is to remember that you have to do whatever will make 'you' happy! There is no set of rules; if you choose you could dance with your mom, present something in his memory or skip the whole thing. I personally have not decided what I am doing yet, but I have decided that I want my mom to walk me down the aisle.

Keep me posted if you come up with any other ideas and I will do the same!

My Husband lost his mom and I lost both of my parents, what we did was
my DH danced with his aunt who he is very close to. I danced with my Uncle and my 2 brothers. My Aunt & Uncle walked me down the isle.
I picked out songs for each of them that had a special meaning for all of them.

My DH lost his mom 5 years ago. For the mother son dance he chose to dance with me. He has 2 sisters and he said they cant take the place of his mom. And he wanted to share a song and dance for her with me instead! I had no clue about this until the moment it was happening. He gave a short speech and then we danced to 'Fly Fly by Celine Dion' there wasnt a dry eye in the room.

First off, I'm sorry you lost your Dad. I lost mine in 2005. And I think this is such a personal situation in that I know friends who have had the same thing and want to honor them or do something like a photo montage or honor their living parent...but for me, the loss of my Dad was monumental. And I can't deal with having a dance for FH and his Mom or anything with me. FH hates being in the spotlight anyway so it worked out fine that this was what I wanted to do. My brother who I am really close with will walk me down the aisle and I will have happy pics of me with my Dad at the RH and will also have a photo/charm of my Dad around my bouquet. That felt right for me. I don't want to be a blubbering mess at my wedding. Hope you find the right thing for your situation and have a wonderful wedding.

It is such a relief to know I am not alone with this one. My dad passed away when I was 16 and I am having trouble making this decision as well. I am torn between dancing with my mom, who will be walking me down the aisle, and doing something in my father's memory. My problem is how do i honor his memory without changing the whole mood?

I don't have my father in my life and I'm VERY close with my mom, so she'll be walking me down the aisle. However, we are planning to just have FH and his mom dance. As close as me and my mom are, I know she'd feel a lil strange having a dance with me as she's pretty shy (I almost thought she wouldn't walk me down the aisle due to her nerves!) I don't think anyone will even notice when we don't have a special dance.

I was in the same situation, but I chose to dance with my mom. I did it as a surprise and she loved it Too me my mom was the person I am the closest with and it seemed natural...plus she LOVES to dance

My father passed but my mother is still here (thank God!). My Grandfather is walking me down and I'm also dancing with him.

My friends father passed away a few months before her wedding - she had a slideshow of her father on the plasma screens and danced with her mom....

I don't see anything wrong with not dancing and just having FH dance with his mom.
