Re: Father Daughter Song Help
Here are the Lyrics to I loved her firstLook at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way
But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first
How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time
But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

thats a cute song...but my dad was not a big part of my life growing up so i dont think i would use that song unless you are really close with your dad...thats just my honest opinion

Re: Father Daughter Song Help
I am very very close with my dad so that is why I am so torn on the song. I am leaning towards I loved her first but I have to call my DJ by Tues and change Butterfly kisses. FH likes the one I like.

Re: Father Daughter Song Help
I like Butterfly Kisses...That song explains just how my father will feel on that day. I know him so well and he told me he really likes that song. My mom is just worried that he will not be able to hold up during the song, nonetheless, I don't think I will be able to either.

If you are very close to your dad as you said you are, then I would pick the sone you put the lyrics up for. It's a very nice father/daughter song

I say 'I Loved Her First'. That's what I want to do! LOVE it! I cry EVERY time I hear it! It's SO new and special! I feel like Butterfly Kisses has been 'done'. The other song would be unique. Here's the link to hear the song:

Re: Father Daughter Song Help
Do you like Luther Vandross? Well he made a song called 'Dance with my father'Dance With My Father
Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around 'til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
How I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just what my mama said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me
If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
'Cause I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
I know I'm praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don't do it usually
But dear Lord she's dying
To dance with my father again
Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream

dance with my father is a nice song.... but it's about how the father has passed away.note the lyrics....
'Never dreamed that he would be gone from me
If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end'
and
'Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
I know I'm praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don't do it usually
But dear Lord she's dying
To dance with my father again'
BUT it is a beautiful song.... I just don't think its appropriate if you ARE dancing with your father.

I was just about the post the exact same thing.
I have a thing for song lyrics (doesn't mean as much to other people, I know...) I even see it with first dance songs (a couple come to mind off the top of my head) -- where the sentiment of the lyrics doesn't really support what people think the song is about based on the chorus.

ME TOO!
I'm known for overanalyzing songs... and telling people what they're REALLY about!
Which is why I'm having a problem picking OUR first dance song... because the song that we consider 'our' song runs into the same dilemma you just mentioned -- the chorus is great, but the rest doesn't really apply...
I'll have to work on it!

Yup, I love U2 (I mean LOOOOOOOVE U2), but the lyrics from 'All I Want is You' don't fit a wedding sentiment. I know I'm overanalyzing, but I can't help it. I've been reading and writing down song lyrics for so long and it's important to me that the song lyrics are right. I also like 'Baby I'm Amazed' but again - sentiment of the lyrics is not right.
I think I'm leaning toward 'I Don't Know Much' (Aaron Neville) right now... or maybe 'At Last' (Etta James)... something classic probably, with the right lyrics.
