I am trying to find a song to dance with my dad to. He is all about song meanings and what not which is really annoying. He doesn't want to dance to any of like the usual songs b/c he feels I was never his 'little girl' because I was always very independent. So anyway, I was thinking of two songs
Daughters by John Mayer I Love You Just the Way You Are by Billy Joel
My FH thinks that the Billy Joel song is a love song. PLEASE HELP!!!
Any other suggestions would be wonderful!!

Re: Father/Daughter song...Please be honest!!
I danced with my father to the song lullabye by billy joel. it is such a great song and the words are really nice but not too mushy. here they are...
Goodnight, my angel Time to close your eyes And save these questions for another day I think I know what you've been asking me I think you know what I've been trying to say I promised I would never leave you And you should always know Wherever you may go No matter where you are I never will be far away
Goodnight, my angel Now it's time to sleep And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me When we went sailing on an emerald bay And like a boat out on the ocean I'm rocking you to sleep The water's dark And deep inside this ancient heart You'll always be a part of me
Goodnight, my angel Now it's time to dream And dream how wonderful your life will be Someday your child may cry And if you sing this lullabye Then in your heart There will always be a part of me
Someday we'll all be gone But lullabyes go on and on... They never die That's how you And I Will be

We're using 'What a Wonderful World' - Louie Armstrong song (although we're using the remake by Nick Cave and the Bad seeds...) I wanted something more generic because I'm not close to my dad.

I personally like Daughters...that's what I was going to dance with my mom to (my father passed away). I also like that its not really mushy so I don't cry while I'm dancing!!

My thoughts exactly. I probably won't cry too much dancing to that song, lol. I'm crying right now listening to other mushier songs, lol.

JMO but i do think 'i love you just the way you are' is a love song. 'daughters' would be good. or 'i hope you dance'. or 'butterfly kisses'. or 'unforgettable' is a classic by natalie and nat king cole.

We are dancing to Butterfly Kisses - however, I would have used Do I Make You Proud by Taylor Hicks had it come out sooner and I had placed it on my CD favors! We are going to dedicate a dance to our parents with it though.

We used 'The way you look tonight' frank sinatra..... I was never really Daddy's little girl either so this song was very generic.

I wouldn't do Daughters...
It's about a distant absent father who treated his daughter very badly earlier in life and how that has stayed with her and affected her. Definitely not a father-daughter wedding dance. Sorry.

At my Sweet 16, I danced with my dad to 'Just the Way you Are'. I love that for a father daughter song.

Re: Father/Daughter song...Please be honest!!
I've been out of my parent's house for 12 years, married & divorced, so some of the songs didn't quite fot for me either.
Every time I hear Celine Dion's Because You Loved Me, and I think of my Dad, I cry all over the place! So, that will be what we dance to...here are the lyrics...
For all those times you stood by me For all the truth that you made me see For all the joy you brought to my life For all the wrong that you made right For every dream you made come true For all the love I found in you I'll be forever thankful baby You're the one who held me up Never let me fall You're the one who saw me through through it all
You were my strength when I was weak You were my voice when I couldn't speak You were my eyes when I couldn't see You saw the best there was in me Lifted me up when I couldn't reach You gave me faith 'coz you believed I'm everything I am Because you loved me
You gave me wings and made me fly You touched my hand I could touch the sky I lost my faith, you gave it back to me You said no star was out of reach You stood by me and I stood tall I had your love I had it all I'm grateful for each day you gave me Maybe I don't know that much But I know this much is true I was blessed because I was loved by you
You were my strength when I was weak You were my voice when I couldn't speak You were my eyes when I couldn't see You saw the best there was in me Lifted me up when I couldn't reach You gave me faith 'coz you believed I'm everything I am Because you loved me
You were always there for me The tender wind that carried me A light in the dark shining your love into my life You've been my inspiration Through the lies you were the truth My world is a better place because of you
You were my strength when I was weak You were my voice when I couldn't speak You were my eyes when I couldn't see You saw the best there was in me Lifted me up when I couldn't reach You gave me faith 'coz you believed I'm everything I am Because you loved me
You were my strength when I was weak You were my voice when I couldn't speak You were my eyes when I couldn't see You saw the best there was in me Lifted me up when I couldn't reach You gave me faith 'coz you believed I'm everything I am Because you loved me
I'm everything I am Because you loved me

There's a new song that's perfect for a Sweet 16 Father/Daughter dance. It's called 'Sweet 16 (My Everything)' by 'Who Are Those Guys'. You can hear for free on their website: www.whoarethoseguys.com or there's also a link to Broadjam where you can download it. This is the PERFECT tune for a father/daughter dance...... Thanks for listening!.
