I know alot of you are doing donation favors - and I really want to give a donation to the ASPCA as my favor, but FH thinks some people will be sad they won't get 'real' favors. I just wanted to do a quick poll to get honest favor opinions:

but I am also giving a cookie shapped like a wedding cake- but you don't have to
I had nice card printed up to put on the table
I think in light with everything going on in the world people will be happy that you gave them that and not a traditional favor

I love it! FH and I donated $$ to the Lace Armstrong Foundation. We weren't going to give anything out until we realized that we could also give the LiveStrong bracelets as our favor.

I will be doing this too. My mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and I would like to donate to an organization associated with it. Honestly, I could care less whether people are pissed or not! That's what they will get...like it or not!

I love this idea. I'd rather spend the money on a donation than wedding junk that I normally throw out. I have lost many family members to cancer, so we will be donating to the American Cancer Society.

Honestly if I wasn't donating to American Heart association to honor my FH late father, I would have chosen to donate to animals, that is my true love, so go for it, I think it's a wonderful Idea, especially now with all the stranded animals suffering from Katrina
If you want to add something to the donation ( I am doing a heart shaped cookie) How about a small box of animal crackers or something, it will make people smile, and be fairly inexpensive to do.

I'm donating money in honor of my grandparents to a hospital. I know the money will go to good use and I feel like everyone puts the favors in a drawer and forgets about them. (well in my family at least)

Yeah - all the Katrina stories make me cry - I love animals so much I hate to see them suffer That was actually what motivated me and made me really want to do a favor donation.
I really love the animal cracker idea! That is such a cute idea

i can not believe you posted this - i was literally having this conversation with a co-worker @ lunch yesterday!!
she also wants to donate to the ASPCA - when you donate they send you 'placecards' - on which you would write names & table numbers and on the back they say something to the effect of - this is your favor - a donation was made - etc., etc.,
she wants to not use them as place cards - cut the backs off (the piece explaining there has been a donation made) and attach ribbon to it - and attach it to a sunflower - sunflower is her theme. which i thought - was not only pretty and original - but totally cool...
OR - i thought of one better - give the donation - you can do something similiar - but see if you can get cheap 'dogtags' made up with your name & FH's name and your wedding date......attach it to that - and then people get to take something home with them.....

My sister did donation, and I didn't even notice, or care. To the best of my knowledge neither did anyone else. (and since I have heard my mother complain about a ton of stuff with her wedding, I am sure if her friends commented about the lack of a favor I would have heard that too, but not one single peep).
One of the girls here is doing Live Strong bracelets. She said it was OK to 'steal' her idea. As a result, FH & I are doing those bracelets in memory of his father, and bracelets from the brain anuerysm foundation in memory of my father.

A friend of mine gave a donation and explained the donation on a scrol that was attached to a little pouch of jordan almonds. I thought it was a nice touch!

That would be me! I think that there are so many wonderful organizations to give to. I know that breast cancer is also giving out pink bracelets. It is such a great idea.

we are doing donations rather then favors....one to one hospital for my family and the other to hospital where fh's lost his grandma. imo, it means more and we know that no one will be upset that they don't get an acutal 'favor.'

I am having a donation as well as a favor, my grandfather has his own foundation and since he passed away last year i wanted to do something that will make him a part of our wedding. but i am also giving away chocolate (something that wont get thrown out as most favors do)!!! i think its a great idea!

I love this idea! Who needs a favor anyway? I love the idea of the animal crackers. I am going to do my donations to http://www.animalhavenshelter.org/. They are a no-kill animal shelter with locations in Flushing and upstate NY. My FH said that he went there while on a tour of building inspections (he's FDNY) and he said that these people are totally legit. No bells or whistles, just really love and rescue animals. They even sent a crew down to New Orleans and rescued animals and are bringing them back to NY! Since you guys inspired me, I am going to email them right now to see if I donate will they give me some sort of a card or something to go with the place settings!

I am doing the same thing.. giving to TSC for childern I say do it and for the ones that have something to say SCREW THEM. that is how I feel. Just thing how many animals you will be helping

You should totally do a donation to the ASPCA if that is the organization you feel most connected to. Put on the card something that explains why you're choosing that cause. The idea of animal crackers is phenomenal -- so different. I bet everyone will love it!
