Our wedding is kinda beachy themed so I was looking for something tropical...
One of our ideas is mini Caribbean rum cakes (we ordered a sample and it was delicious!). Another idea, which I prefer, is a packet of margarita mix and maybe a cute glass to go with it.
Problem: my FH reminded me that alot of his fam doesn't drink alcohol. If the mix has non-alcoholic instructions, do you think this is an okay favor (what about if it doesn't?) What do you think of the mini rum cake idea? I don't want to offend anyone.
I would do the mini rum cakes! It might be kinda strange to get a gift that is alcohol related if yo don't drink. The packaging for the rum cakes is adorable!!

I'm an alcoholic, although I've been sober for five years. To be honest, I find it very weird that so many women here on the board are giving wine, rum, and other alcoholic favors. What am I supposed to do with that? Give it away to someone at my table? Uh, thanks. Nice favor. There's no chance that I'm ever going to drink alcohol again--I have a health problem that prevents it, even if I wanted to drink, which I don't--but what about people who are struggling? It's one thing to go to a party and not drink even though other people are. It's another thing for someone to give you a closed bottle and expect you to take it home. I could see that being a very dangerous situation for some people. And people who don't drink for religious reasons might be offended by an alcoholic favor.
The rum cake and the margarita mix are the same thing, in my opinion. Even if it's non-alcoholic, who drinks a non-alcoholic margarita? I don't want to be mean or anything, but my suggestion is you choose another favor. There's so many cute things out there, especially with beachy or tropical themes.

thanks for helping me see it from another perspective, i hadnt thought of that.
after talking with FH, we arent doing the margarita mix bc we dont want to make ppl feel uncomfortable...though i dont think a rum cake and a margarita mix is the same thing/problem. the rum cake has less than 0.5% of alcohol and qualities of alcohol are burned out in the cooking process, but ill certainly keep looking for other beachy ideas that avoid this whole issue.

It's not the amount of alcohol--someone who's struggling to stay sober shouldn't have anything that tastes of alcohol. It's why it's a bad idea for alcoholics to drink non-alcoholic beer. It's just better to avoid anything like that, even cough syrup.
But thanks for listening! I do appreciate it. And, really, there's so many cute favors out there.

I have been sober six and a half years and I drink non-alcoholic beverages all the time including margaritas. People are gonna say thing about your favors no matter what it is. My best friend gave out wine knwing I don't drink that! You can't cater to everyone. Are you not gonna give out chocolate because someone is ona diet? Let's be real here. I liked the rum cake and margarita idea. It doesn't look like those packts have alcohol in there, plus I would keep it as a memento because it has your name on it. The most popular favor is a food favor. Not everyone will like what you give, just do what you and FH want and try not to think of pleasing everyone, it probably won't happen. THis is just my honest opinion and wanted you to see it from another perspective.

The rum cakes are really cute and I think people would definetely eat them, whereas they may just put the mix somewhere and never use it.
