I feel so bad for those parents. They just have to sit there and watch this precious angel they brought into this world die in front of their eyes. I can not imagine the pain they are feeling knowing they can not do anything to help her!!

I feel the same way. To bring her in this world and have no say, but to watch her die is heartbreaking.

I am very glad that the courts are not stepping in and making a precedent setting verdict.

I agree that she should be allowed to die. I have read about both arguments and just feel that her parents, while I feel terrible for them, should allow her to go.

Hopefully, this will bring an end to this heartwrenching story and she can finally be at peace.

I feel horrible for the parents to have to watch their child die. But the thing that bothers me most is the manner in which she is going to die. To starve someone to death IMO is horrible, we give animals more grace then that. This is definitely a case IMO that euthenasia (sp?) would be appropriate. If someone did this to a dog or cat we would be outraged, I would feel better if I knew that she could not feel any pain.

Well on some level i agree...BUT i really don't think she has the ability to feel pain and i don't think she will be feeling anything...It is the concept that really bothers people...
But i would rather have someone go through this now that worse later!

As you know I am sensitive to this issue because of my father being in a persistent vegetative state on a feeding tube. While my family agrees that pulling Dad's feeding tube is not an option, I think the world and the courts and every aspect of government should respect Terri's wishes and allow her guardian to do what he and his wife discussed. Government has NO role in issues of the heart.

My father never had that discussion with mom and us kids at any time before he got ill. People of that generation never did. Knowing my father, I know he wouldn't want this existence for his family. It is a constant state of mourning and he is still here. Almost 6 months in the hospital now (not even close to 15 years).

Again, you are right, they don't feel pain.

I agree Jamie. I don't understand why they would starve her to death??!! It's just not right!!!! I feel so bad for her parents.

I hope that if that happens to me my parents have enough respect for my husband to know that he would know better what I want and respect his decision...

I think her parents should accept that her husband believes that she wouldn't want to live without brain function, with constant bed sores, with sore muscles from lack of movement, and they should let her husband - who is her legal guardian - do what he believes is best for the woman he loved.

Re: Federal Appeals court refuses to reconsider the Schiavo case

Also, as far as 'starving her to death', this is actually a common practice and it is far painless than the 'lives' some of these people live. The person is given large amounts of pain killers, so it is completely unlikely that they feel anything - a much better feeling than the muscle atrophy and everything else that is suffered by those who live years without bodily function.

My husband's grandmother - after living 7 years almost as a vegetable (the result of over 40 ministrokes combined with alzheimers and dementia) stopped eating on her own. The family decided not to insert a feeding tube because she hadn't moved in over 5 years on her own and was suffering form severe muscle atrophy.

I actually feel terrible for the husband. I believe he wants what is best for his wife, and he is not being allowed to do that b/c of her parents (removal of feeding tubes is so common that the only reason you're hearing about this is b/c of her parents). I can't imagine their pain either, but I think they should have respect for her marriage and allow him to act as the guardian he is.

Everyone except brain dead people have the ability to feel pain. So just think this woman has been suffering for 15 years and her parents watched that. It's a tradegy but her parents really need to let go. They want her alive for there own personal reasons. They are not looking out for their daughter's best interest.
