Re: Feed the photogs, dj??
I just contacted my RH and they charge 1/2 for vendors and children under 12. The kids are all under 5, seems to me they should work with me on that price.

My officiant didn't stay for the reception.. so it could be potentially one less person!

Re: Feed the photogs, dj??
We are feeding everyone, we feel it's only right.
My father has played many, many weddings and events over the years, and he is not always fed, and it blows to hear that. I guess it's different when you're 'in the business' and you know how it goes down, because the musicians (if a band) do not get paid very much at all, and then when they're not fed on top of it it's just degrading and upsetting. Pisses me off to think of the shizzy ways he's been treated over the years.

I was told by my DJ company that i do not have to feed my DJ that he will eat at cocktail hour and i will be feeding my Photographers and videographer.
I was told the same about my Dj. I will also be feeding my photographers and videographers but most RH's have a special package price for those people so you should ask.

Hi all 2010 bride here sorry to chime in but the above statement is wrong. If your vendor is legit, they are required by law to provide a break for a certain amount of hours worked to there employees. Think of it this way do you take a lunch break at work? How do you feel when you don't?
But I will be feeding all my vendors.

It may be true that all workes are entitled to breaks but I don't think by law YOU have to feed them. I may be entitled to a break by law but my employers are not required to feed me as well.
That being said, I fed my photog, videographer and DJ. My guys were with me for a 13 hour day and I could never imagine running around for that long without eating! I think I would have passed out if it were me at hour 7!

It's up to you unless it's in their contract. For example my dj contract states that the dj and the mc will be fed. The photographers I'm on the fence about. I was always told when I worked weddings that if I was offered food to decline because it's unprofessional and I don't want them to go off somewhere and eat and miss something like a toast but I don't want them to go hungry but then I feel like...well we used to eat before and after weddings and we managed. I'm unsure.
You need to feed your photographers. please keep in mind that they are with you ALL day. Its not like they are working for 4 or 5 hours -- their day is probably closer to 10-12+ hours.
I am not sure what you did for weddings but it is not unprofessional to eat for a vendor. They are professional and eat in a private area -- usually while dinner is going on so they aren't in the way or missing anything. The RH brought them food first so they were done while most guests were still being served. Your RH and the vendor will work out the timing.
You are entitled to your opinion but my photographers will not be with me for that amount of time either. Again, if they are off eating they may be missing as well. Aside from when I worked as a wedding photographer and what we did as practice. When I worked in special events at Disney, during any type of special event, anyone employed by the company isn't allowed to eat or drink or anything like that for the same reason. They flat out say, eat on your breaks, etc you aren't there to eat. You pay your photographers a ton of money to capture small details not to take an elongated break and go off someplace private. I have two photogs, I wouldn't have an issue with them taking breaks separately but there is a reason I have two. I have no issue with my DJs or DOC if I had one eating because djs can just put music on while everyone is eating and take a break and a DOC is really with you all day and has little to do with the food, that responsibility becomes shifted to the maitre'd. But I want my photographers taking pictures and feed whomever you'd like I was giving my opinion and stating what I'm doing at my wedding based on my own professional experiences. It has nothing to do with hospitality, as we're inviting everyone from the gal doing my hair to our ceremony musicians to stay for the whole thing.
You gave me a great idea - I will ask my photog and my assistant to eat their meal at separate times. But generally, while the whole wedding is eating their entree, it's prob not the most ideal picture taking time, so they can probably eat then, too.
I wouldn't expect my photog's to take an hour break though, or anything like that. Enough time to eat their meal and continue working.
DOnt worry about missing pics or any part of your day. My photogs and DJ ate and I have my proofs back and they did not miss a thing.
As far as not eating as a Disney employee is completely different. Disney employees follow a completely different set of rules then the general service industry. In NY it is common practice to feed your vendors.

Re: Feed the photogs, dj??
Wow just wow.
As a part time make-up artist that stays on set and on my feet-we must eat. If it's over an 8 hr day, we are only human. If your photographer goes without food for more than 6-8 hrs, guess what? You will have NO photos b/c they will faint.
MY contract states to feed them and most halls charge half for vendors. I want them to eat. Happy fed people make happy workers. They can eat when I eat. I really don't want pics of food in my mouth.
I don't think they will miss the moments I want on camera. And the vendors you probably picked (inc your photographer) have been doing this for years and certainly knows when to eat.
