It's up to you unless it's in their contract. For example my dj contract states that the dj and the mc will be fed. The photographers I'm on the fence about. I was always told when I worked weddings that if I was offered food to decline because it's unprofessional and I don't want them to go off somewhere and eat and miss something like a toast but I don't want them to go hungry but then I feel like...well we used to eat before and after weddings and we managed. I'm unsure.
You need to feed your photographers. please keep in mind that they are with you ALL day. Its not like they are working for 4 or 5 hours -- their day is probably closer to 10-12+ hours.
I am not sure what you did for weddings but it is not unprofessional to eat for a vendor. They are professional and eat in a private area -- usually while dinner is going on so they aren't in the way or missing anything. The RH brought them food first so they were done while most guests were still being served. Your RH and the vendor will work out the timing.
You are entitled to your opinion but my photographers will not be with me for that amount of time either. Again, if they are off eating they may be missing as well. Aside from when I worked as a wedding photographer and what we did as practice. When I worked in special events at Disney, during any type of special event, anyone employed by the company isn't allowed to eat or drink or anything like that for the same reason. They flat out say, eat on your breaks, etc you aren't there to eat. You pay your photographers a ton of money to capture small details not to take an elongated break and go off someplace private. I have two photogs, I wouldn't have an issue with them taking breaks separately but there is a reason I have two. I have no issue with my DJs or DOC if I had one eating because djs can just put music on while everyone is eating and take a break and a DOC is really with you all day and has little to do with the food, that responsibility becomes shifted to the maitre'd. But I want my photographers taking pictures and feed whomever you'd like I was giving my opinion and stating what I'm doing at my wedding based on my own professional experiences. It has nothing to do with hospitality, as we're inviting everyone from the gal doing my hair to our ceremony musicians to stay for the whole thing.
You gave me a great idea - I will ask my photog and my assistant to eat their meal at separate times. But generally, while the whole wedding is eating their entree, it's prob not the most ideal picture taking time, so they can probably eat then, too.
I wouldn't expect my photog's to take an hour break though, or anything like that. Enough time to eat their meal and continue working.
DOnt worry about missing pics or any part of your day. My photogs and DJ ate and I have my proofs back and they did not miss a thing.
As far as not eating as a Disney employee is completely different. Disney employees follow a completely different set of rules then the general service industry. In NY it is common practice to feed your vendors.
ITA!
Again, I'm not telling anyone what to do I'm stating that I haven't figured out the timing and how to go about things because there are certain things that I want photographed, not food in people's mouths as I already stated for those who don't care to read, but other details. As I suggested, breaks and eating separately are great but if you have two photographers then one should always be there to take pictures. I also did not get full day photography for those people who keep throwing around hours for comparison.
I never jump on anyone on this board or criticize what they have to say. I've defended people because when someone asks for help or for an opinion I think they're looking to survey what others are doing. I'd appreciate the same courtesy because really this thread has become juvenile.

What about the officiant and ceremony musicians? Mine are just staying though the CH... my vendors are 1/2 price too, but do I still need to pay if they're just staying an hour?

Check with your RH. Ours are staying for the whole thing so we're no help but I don't think you need to pay for it if it's cocktail hour but per head once you're seated probably.

We are feeding photog and assistant, videographer, dj and mc.
I pretty sure Gerard said that vendors are free. Vendors and kids.
You aren't paying to feed them though right?
I know other places they are usually half price.

It definitely is common courtesy to feed your vendors, I mean they are working for you for 8-12 hours, they are human and deserve to eat like everyone else. They wont miss anything because it takes a few minutes to eat something and get back to work.

Think about yourself... would you want to be working 10 hours and not EAT... really?
If you have a cocktail hour performers... no they do not need to be fed, however, your DJ, PHOTOG, VIDEO, DOC,,, unless they are robots- Fed them! It is the right thing to do!

Yes you def have to feed them particularly the photographers since they will be there the whole day to capture your photos/video. The DJ will be there the whole reception hr. so it is more a courtesy to feed them unless you really want them to mess up the music. Remember keeping them happy will also keep the music pumping. You can arrange with the RH/caterer to prepare food for vendors. My caterer arranged chicken w/ gravy sauce and mashed potatoes, asparagus. I know it doesn't sound that appetizing but honestly are you really going to feed them Filet Mignon? It does the job and you're feeding them. If they're still hungry, they can always grab something from dessert station.
