It's up to you unless it's in their contract. For example my dj contract states that the dj and the mc will be fed. The photographers I'm on the fence about. I was always told when I worked weddings that if I was offered food to decline because it's unprofessional and I don't want them to go off somewhere and eat and miss something like a toast but I don't want them to go hungry but then I feel like...well we used to eat before and after weddings and we managed. I'm unsure.

You need to feed your photographers. please keep in mind that they are with you ALL day. Its not like they are working for 4 or 5 hours -- their day is probably closer to 10-12+ hours.

I am not sure what you did for weddings but it is not unprofessional to eat for a vendor. They are professional and eat in a private area -- usually while dinner is going on so they aren't in the way or missing anything. The RH brought them food first so they were done while most guests were still being served. Your RH and the vendor will work out the timing.

i think it's common courtesy to feed these people. they are with you the entire day, They need to eat! My RH feeds them at a very low cost to me.

We are feeding photographer and assistant, videographer. The band said they don't require being fed, they will get CH food (we are fine with that), and we will put that $$ we would have spent on food for them toward their tips.

With tipping a band, do you tip every member? How does that work?

You are entitled to your opinion but my photographers will not be with me for that amount of time either. Again, if they are off eating they may be missing as well. Aside from when I worked as a wedding photographer and what we did as practice. When I worked in special events at Disney, during any type of special event, anyone employed by the company isn't allowed to eat or drink or anything like that for the same reason. They flat out say, eat on your breaks, etc you aren't there to eat. You pay your photographers a ton of money to capture small details not to take an elongated break and go off someplace private. I have two photogs, I wouldn't have an issue with them taking breaks separately but there is a reason I have two. I have no issue with my DJs or DOC if I had one eating because djs can just put music on while everyone is eating and take a break and a DOC is really with you all day and has little to do with the food, that responsibility becomes shifted to the maitre'd. But I want my photographers taking pictures and feed whomever you'd like I was giving my opinion and stating what I'm doing at my wedding based on my own professional experiences. It has nothing to do with hospitality, as we're inviting everyone from the gal doing my hair to our ceremony musicians to stay for the whole thing.

You gave me a great idea - I will ask my photog and my assistant to eat their meal at separate times. But generally, while the whole wedding is eating their entree, it's prob not the most ideal picture taking time, so they can probably eat then, too.

I wouldn't expect my photog's to take an hour break though, or anything like that. Enough time to eat their meal and continue working.

Re: Feed the photogs, dj??

I don't want pictures of people with their mouths open no. But it's generally a great time for photo journalistic photos. The ones of the meals coming out, the ones of the room and how it's decorated once people aren't scattered as much and for them to walk around taking pictures of the details without interruption. Also, when people give toasts, I want photos of that, not wait we need to go find the photogs. I'm not telling anyone what to do, just explaining what I am doing. And we're still figuring out what to do honestly.

Re: Feed the photogs, dj??

We fed all our vendors and we only had to pay 1/2.

I actually made sure to check if she ate, because we did pay for the plate and she and her assistant were with me since 11:30am that morning

If you're hiring a professional wedding photographer I'm pretty sure they know how to conduct themselves.

Our photographer didn't skip a beat and was able to have dinner.

I hope that helped
