Is it awkward to ask your vendors to help themselves during the cocktail hour so you dont have to pay half price for their meal?
There will be plenty of food during the cocktail hour anyway! And they are eating at that time, right?

Re: Feeding Vendors - Awkward Question?
hmm me, personally i would not feel right doing that sort of thing- and i definitely want my vendors to be 100% happy on my day. . .
but i wouldnt think the hall would allow that either - i mean they are going to be aware of how many vendors are attending so they will probably want to charge you for their plates regardless of any arrangement you may have with them personally!

Aren't your vendors going to be working during cocktail hour. I want my photographer and videographer to be taking pictures of everyone and filming everything. Honestly, it's a long day for them too (even though they are getting paid very well) and they deserve a meal. At least the meal is discounted.

Re: Feeding Vendors - Awkward Question?
My hall took care of all the vendors without charging me. I don't know how/when, as I forgot to ask, but I heard a waitress asking my photog what he wanted as an entree.

They are probablly going to be working during that time. Usually the vendors eat in between things especially like the photographer. I personally wouldn't feel comforatble doing that. That's just me though

I don't even think a hall will allow you do that to be honest with you.
These guys are going to be working hard for you all day, I would feed them a good meal

Re: Feeding Vendors - Awkward Question?
I know what you are saying and to cut back as much as you can to save money is something every bride wishes they can do. However some of your vendors will not be there during the CH (for example the DJ and MC). And the photographer and videographer will probably be taking pictures during that time. They may not be taking shots the whole CH, but if you ask them to eat during your CH and not take pictures, you may miss out on some great pictures! Just something to think about, but again, I know how you feel about trying to save some money!!!

Personally I love the cocktail hr food better than the dinner, but that's just me.
I would still feed them. The photog and videog should be shooting during that time.
The DJ/Band should be setting up and sound checking during that time.

Re: Feeding Vendors - Awkward Question?
My hall actually encouraged me to do that and I told my vendors that we were doing that. But, then they gave me a very fair price for feeding meals to the vendors, so we ended up paying for meals for them. I'm glad we gave them meals.

Re: Feeding Vendors - Awkward Question?
I don't think I would want my vendors walking around my CH eating and stuff with my family-- I don't know, I just don't like the idea of that...
Plus, they do work really hard all day so I think they deserve a nice, sit down meal.
And I don't think the hall would allow that considering they will know about how many vendors you will be having-- meaning, how many you will be feeding.
Sorry, JMO

I think they might get a little insulted! My hall has discounted rates for the vendor's dinners!

i agree with this too. i want my photo/video ppl taking pics and filming during the CH and doing their job! during dinner, they can take a minute to relax and eat. but in reality, i'm sure they won't be able to rest that much.
just think about it--your photo/video ppl will probably be with you from 8-10 hrs.!!! that's a loooong time, and you want them to be at their best, rejuvenated and energized.
same goes for DJ/MC, etc. they all need to eat!

Re: Feeding Vendors - Awkward Question?
Personally, I couldn't do it. The vendors that will be with me at the reception are going to be with me from very early on in the day. I don't have any that are just working 5 hours, they are all working a minimum of 10 hours.

Re: Feeding Vendors - Awkward Question?
My photographer was working during most of the CH and my DJ was probably setting up then. IMO, just get a meal for them, it won't save that much $ by not feeding them. Plus believe me-the day of, you will be so grateful to them for all their hard work, you will want to feed them a good meal.

You shouldn't have to worry about that. Usually your RH will set up a small table for them to eat in another room. They're your vendors, and not to be confused with your guests.

My DJ's requested that we not pay for there dinner, they said they would rather have the money in tips at the end of the night

Re: Feeding Vendors - Awkward Question?
I will be paying for my vendors to eat dinner, they are providing a paid service BUT good hospitality goes a long way. IMO!
