Feeling Bridezilla-y

Feeling Bridezilla-y

Ok- here is the deal.. my bro and SIL live in in CA, and her parents live in Canada- obviously, all will be flying in to NY for the wedding- like a week before. It will be a time for them to spend with each other, and also hang out in NYC.

So my bro just asked me if I wuold like to come, but more importantly get him a reservation at a popular restaurant- my company works with a lot of restaurants, for Thur night before the wedding- for my mom/step dad and him and SIL and her parents to go out and bond.

I am taking off Thurs & Fri before the wedding- to do last min things, etc. I live in Manhattan- I have no car, and all my wedding stuff I have done with my mom. I said to him- I'd rather you not go out for a big dinner on Thurs- I have no idea what to expect and I may need mom to help me, do errands, etc.- I have no idea. And he is like, ok bridezilla- which pissed me off! So I think they'd do Tues instead.

Anyway- is he not getting it that I may 'want my mommy' like 36 hours before my wedding day!! Or, am I being totally irrational? He goes, fri will be nice cause she is taking off work- yes-- for ME!! Not to hang out with you during the day-- she is the mother of the bride for goddsakes! This week will be just as stressful for her as it is for me.

Anyway- he said they could go out on Tues too-- but now I feel all guilty- It is not a big deal I know- but now I feel like I am a b*tch or something. Also- he wants to spring this on my mother as a surprise- which since I am completely my mother's daughter- she may not even want to go for a decadent dinner when she is worried about looking good in a dress..

Ok- I needed to vent.. I think that was the main purpose of this.. but am I being too territorial over my mom?

hmmm...maybe you could set it up for Tuesday (because you'll tell a little fib and say that Thursday wouldn't work with the restaurant) and then let your mother decide if she wants to go or not.

OOT guests, no matter who they are, can tend to use the wedding as just one event in a trip to NYC and just don't get how big a deal your wedding is to you.

yeah- he is not inviting my dad to the dinner- so it is not like it is some big family dinner--

He is going to do it Tues-- it's not a big deal- but I just feel so guilt ridden.. but whatever- he has show tickets for Wed, so it was more on his schedule.. I shouldn't feel bad.. I just am one of those people who doens't like people to change anything for them.

You know, honestly? I don't think you sound wrong at all. I really don't. I mean, sure, if he would like to bond and all but maybe just saying that you think you may be a little stressed with last minute things and may need mom's comfort, even though he's a guy I'm sure he could respect that. As for feeling guilty, I really agree with you and think you are definitely on strong ground to stand. The other thing is, you can always talk to your mom about it and see what she want to do, too?

Stop beating yourself up...he can't understand the stress you are under. Let it be..keep it Tuesday and don't give it a second thought.

I agree with the others. Try no to give it another thought....Most people don't understand until they are in your shoes...a Bride trying to account for 1 million things. Keep it on Tuesday with the peice of mind knowing if you need your mom on Thurs she will be there.

thanks-- I wanted to make sure I was not being too selfish of my mom.. My bro is not in town that much- and while he is married.. his wedding was planned completely by SIL and her mom who is like a uber MOB-- she like wants to see pics of my dress and STDs, etc,. so he has no clue.. Plus it is also a special time for me and my mom..

Dinner is staying on Tues and I have my mom on Thurs!

good. i would not feel the least bit guilty about wanting your mom to yourself 2 days before YOUR WEDDING. i mean, come on! you're totally right on this one - he's just being a (clueless) guy.
