Feeling cheated?

Re: Feeling cheated?

Kdrainey--I think that each bride would feel different about this. With all of our talk about dresses, I cannot picture you NOT getting married in a proper gown, so if you have a destination wedding, you better be packing an awesome bridal gown.

I don't know think you'd complain about having a destination wedding BUT my guess is that if you did the big Long Island wedding, you will be glad that you did. You would not regret having a big wedding but there is some chance that you would regret it if you didn't. Think of it this way, you will look back in 20 years and it will not seem like a large sum of money that you paid!!!

Just my opinion!

I think you will always WONDER about the path not chosen regardless of what you decide. I had the traditional wedding that was beautiful, yet I still dream about what my wedding would have been like if we would have been married on an island with only immediate family present. I regret not going with my gut and listening to what everyone else wanted for us. You need to do what's best for you and your FH.

I think I wold feel cheated if I didn't have the big elaborate wedding. that doens't necessarily mena expensive..but I've always wanted the white gown, the flowers, the limos, the whole shebang...You only have a wedding once, and I feel like if I missed that opportunity I'd regret it. It's sucha joyous occasion, you've gotta celebrate it in style!

I know the right answer is you'll never feel cheated if you're marrying your wonderful FH, etc...but I think I'd miss the big wedding if I didn't have one, and there's been a lot of talk aout engagement rings. Of course if my Fh couldn't afford an e-ring I would still marry him, but I'd really miss it.

Re: Feeling cheated?

there were plenty of times where we said lets just elope but then dh would say that i'd miss thewedding. i always dreamed of a wedding, but the practical side was saying HOUSE!!! but we did it, and for less than a lot of other people, so that helps us. we had a beautiful day. great memories. i think i'd be fine without a big wedding, but maybe 10 years from now, i'd feel a little disappointed.

we feel both wasy about at. at first it was suppose to be a destination wedding but many family couldn't afford so we said lets do it right and have everybody thier. turns out that same family that coudln't afford it didn't even give us a gift... heck at least give us a card... (that not why we did it) but in terms of wedding edquite (sp) ... do what you want. when it comes down to it, thats all that matters and your happy. us not having a destination wedding gave us a lifetime of memories with the drama, switching locations, meetings wonderful vendors (our new friends) and being able to share it with LIW... oh did i mention we gonna be on TV now

it could go either way but do what you want.
their many of times when we wanted to give up but when you start somthing, you gotta commit 100% to it.

go get married

Honestly... I think I would feel cheated if we were just getting married in Vegas and not having the bigger wedding afterwards. I dont think there is anything wrong with people who do that I jus think that for me I would want the big day.

cheated..if i decided that i wasn't going to have a wedding in all its formality...well then it was my decision and couldn't possibly feel cheated in any way.

But i would feel sad when i saw those movies, tv shows etc.
But in the end it was my decision..
If you think you are going to feel 'cheated' then have the wedding

KD- sounds like we are in a similar position. I wanted the JP or better yet, Vegas. Just us, no big party. Fh is the one who wanted the more traditional ceremony and reception, and I ended up caving in and letting him have his way. We had some looooonnnnggg discussions about the big wedding, b/c i felt that HE didn't really want it, it was something his family expected. I changed my mind b/c I realized that most people regret the things they didn't do, not the things they did do. And of course, I didn't want him to feel cheated.

Re: Feeling cheated?

hmmm...great question.

Well, I feel cheated because I feel like my 'proper wedding' was ruined by 1 miserable beyotch.

So, there are times that I think I would have been better off saving my money and eloping. I just feel like I spent a WHOLE lotta money and someone basically spoiled the fun for SO MANY people on the day of my wedding.

So, there's no guarantee that you or your DH will be satisfied by having the 'proper wedding'.

I want to do a vow renewal in some tropical island in a couple years.

Re: Feeling cheated?

we originally considered the JP, then it was a church wedding & and a restaraunt reception & then it became our traditional, but smallish wedding at the Milleridge.

I am happy we did what we did.
I don't k now if I would have missed what I had never expeerienced, but spending the day with our family & freinds was a wonderful experience I couldn't have anticipated. IF we had a destiantion weding they all woudln't have been able to come & if we had a wedding dinner at a wedding dinner, we probably would have had to cut the guest list.

We cut out the things we didn't like about weddings ( video, bouquet toss, annoucements--nothing against those of you that did those, we are just kinda shy) & were able to keep the things that were important to us, family, good food, flowers & a pretty dress I told him all along that I wanted a pretty dress, no matter where we ended up getting married. I would have flet cheated if I didn't get to pick out a dress, eve n though I wans't into being a princess, or going too frilly or anything.
