I know my cousin's wife is a doctor, and she continues to use her maiden name professionally.....so their invitation is addressed to
Dr. Jane Doe and Mr. John Smith

i honestly never understood why i had to address guests to my wedding as 'Dr.' As someone mentioned before me it is their professional title only and this is used at their workplace. If someone has a PHD you wouldnt address them as Dr. to a wedding just like if someone was a lawyer you wouldnt write ESQ at the end of their names.

actually, a PhD would be addressed as Dr. to a wedding...and on their Christmas cards, and any other correspondence....

God knows if I spent $100,000 on my PhD, I'd want to be called Dr. every chance I got!!

this is your friend. I think to avoid any confusion, you should ask her, how she would like to be referred to on the place cards. She will probably appreciate that you took time to consider her. Good Luck!
