That['s how I feel about it too... I just dont ge why it's a big deal... I know he spent a ton of money on it... it's more than 2 carats and its from Tiffany's...so it cant be that he's ashamed of what he paid, like someone suggested... I just dont get it... but I'm gonna drop it... cause it really isnt that big of a deal to me... it was more of a curiousness...

Well if you had a general idea then who cares the exact amount anyway. And didn't you get a card with your rings info from Tiffany's? That is all you need for insurance.

I know, because it came up, not because I asked, but I must admit I was curious. I can understand the guy not wanting you to know. If you like the ring, have him do the appraisal and the insurance; it doesn't matter what it costs. He might be afraid that if he got a good deal that you might think that there's something wrong with it, which isn't necessarily the case. What's most important is the commitment that the ring symbolizes.

I know every detail of my ring...cost, color, cut etc etc

We got it appraised & insured together.I got all the papers on it & put them in my safety deposit box.

Why wouldnt he tell you?

I only know because FH wanted to get insurance on it..I wouldn't mind not knowing though..its mine and all mine and he could have gotten it for a dollar..if it makes him feel good for you to keep guessing than just play the game with him..i'm sure it is more than you expected it to be..

My FH and I went shopping together, so I know how much it is. We also got the GIA report, so I know all the details. The insurance appraisal is generally more than people pay for them. I don't see the big deal in knowing but I think you're probably right - you'd probably tell him he shouldn't have spent so much and he doesn't want you to yell at him!

I know, my mom showed me the apprasial (but its from the 80's) I have to have it appraised for myself one of these days. It was my grnadmothers (dad's mom) and she gave it to my mom. She gave it to FI, and now I have it! I got a great idea on this board about titanium wedding rings. They have some that have gold or platnuim insets. They are pretty and cheap! I think it's kinda cool and different and niether of us want to spend a fourtune on wedding rings. TITANUIM....so strong and durable...lasts forever! Like us!

You also need to remember something - just because a ring appraises for a certain amount, does NOT mean that's how much he paid for it. We went to get the ring appraised together (and you should NOT go to a jeweler for that - go to an appraiser who specifically does insurance appraisals, BTW), and I was shocked when I heard how much it was worth, but also knew that FH had gotten a great deal on it. It wasn't until he accidentally slipped and told me how much he paid that I realized that it appraised at almost 3 times what he actually spent on it.

Personally, I'm so glad to know that he got an amazing deal on the ring. I love a good bargain, especially on quality goods, so it made my day when I found out how 'little' he paid for it compared to its value.

Just find out the appraisal value if he doesn't want to tell you.
