you can get a fairytale wedding without spending a lot of money

diy stuff
prioritize the stuff you want
research vendors and negotiate

trust me, you will be happy that you don't spend the extra money in the end.

ITA
no matter what your budget is you will ALWAYS want more!!! there are always add-ons and upgrades that you think you need. but in the end it is all about spending time with family and friends.
you can def save with DIY projects and def negotiate!

my personal opinion - you both need to be open about your finances and have to agree with whatever financial decisions you're going to make. are you both paying for the wedding? is he funding most of it? your parents?? are you asking for more than you can afford? if so, you may want to reconsider your priorities (i hope that doesn't sound like i'm talking down to you - i don't mean to be). do you know what type of wedding he envisions? if you're new to the planning process, prices of vendors can seem overwhelming (esp if you have nothing to compare them to), but the more research you guys do, the more you'll see what is 'average' for various vendors and see in what areas you'll spend more, and in what areas you'll spend less, while (hopefully) keeping your overall budget the same. as far as a 'fairytale type wedding'... get creative - you CAN make your vision a reality without breaking the bank... just have to find less expensive alternatives. and besides, the PRINCE is what makes the fairytale... as does the 'and they lived happily after after'... :)

you just can't come at him like 'i want this, this, and that'

You have to be like 'Photography is on my top priority list. Here are three packages from three diff vendors. What do you think? I think if we stretch a little with photography, we can scale back in flowers.'

already laying some solutions out for him KWIM? guys respond welll to visuals. My DH thought photo was all the same until i showed him the one i wanted. then he was the one that said we had to get it.

you just have to give and take

ITA with this!!! We decided which was most important on the list. I spent my time on the computer researching reviews & narrowing down who was the best for our budget with great customer service! We spent a little extra in certain spots & cut back in others.

Being able to talk about money and coming to a middle ground is critical to a marriage. Both of your priorities must be considered and concensus reached. I am concerned with words like 'strict' which sounds parental. You are equals in a marriage and must be able to talk money as two adults. As others have advised, consider your FH's priorities and ask that he consider yours and then both of you work together to make it work.

ITA!!!

My FH, who is paying for mostly everything, balked at prices UNTIL he went and met with the vendors. After the appointment with the vendors, he suddenly thought everything was very reasonable!

Guys just have to see things for themselves, that's what I've learned from all this.

ITA! you have to explain where you are coming from and definitely prioritize! It's never enough, so think of what truly matters first!

Try to prioritize what you want. I wasn't too big no flowers so I just picked low CPs and roses. I choose 1 big calli lillie for each girl instead of a BO-K.

Also, if you know a vendor, test them out but don't use them just for the price.

AND, our room was beauitful at the RH so we didn't want to over do it with drapping and it already had up-lighting so the DJ we went with a no-frills company (which is actually my cousin). We are STILL getting compliments, they aren't expensive and I'm a little bias but one of the best DJs at a weddding I've ever heard.

Word of advice, don't skimp on too much. Photography is highly important and what you have to remember the day. Also video was GREAT to have but not everyone gets it.

Last but not least, negoitate. Even try to pay cash. Sometimes they will cut the tax or give a lower price if you pay cash.

maybe if he says no you can do things for extra cash?? I love ebay, i sell all the stuff im getting rid of and if it doesnt sell i just donate it. But the extra cash is nice.

it helped me to make a list in the very beginning of my planning of my non-negotiables (i can NOT see my wedding without this), negotiables (i WANT this, but i'm willing to bend on it) and neutrals (i dont care if this is here or not, what color it is, what style etc).

See if you can negotiate people down to save money, maybe DIY , and etsy or ebay to grab good deals!!!

i agree with what another bride said, no matter how high your budget, there's always so much more we all would want :)

Re: FH is being VERY strict with the budget!!!

I am trying to be very conservative with money but I do make him research things if he doesnt believe how much they cost. He doesn't want to do all of that work so he usually believes me.

Or I will come at him with all of these facts this person costs ____. and this one costs ________. and then he starts to realize that they all cost around a certain price so he figures its not me trying to spend our money, its the wedding industry!!!!!!
