So one of my friends just asked me if I was inviting the mother of FH's kids to the wedding. My response was a quick 'h*ll no,'. They then asked if she was welcome at the church to see her kids participate in the wedding.
I hadnt thought of that. Is it appropriate for her to be there? We dont like each other, so was thinking she really shouldnt be part of my day. What do you think??

Re: FH's ex
hmm.. that is strange but i can understand her wanting to come to see her children in the wedding.. MAYBE
my FH's parents are divorced and his mom didn't go to his dad's wedding to his now step-mom, but he was also 14 or so.
I don't know... lol. I know some people who aren't invited to either, the reception or the church, but still go to the church just out or respect for the couple. Those are normally people like acquantances, parents of the couples friends, etc.

Re: FH's ex
FH's ex wife is not welcome to our wedding whatsoever. There is no need for her to see FH's son participate in our wedding. It's not a school play, it's a ceremony celebrating our commitment to one another and my commitment to his son.

Re: FH's ex
its up to you...if you think she would come to the church and not cause any problems then maybe it would be nice to let her see the kids participate. But if theres a chance she would do/say something inappropriate I wouldn't risk it.

I think it may be awkward all the way around, especially if you both do not like each other. The day should be focused on you, the FH & the kids. Although you will have to maintain some type of relationship with her for the kids, I would not invite her to the wedding.

Re: FH's ex
i actually have this same situation. my 2 sons are my junior best men. i get along well with their mother as does Jackie... well we are civil to clarify.
we thought about it... and i would have no problem with it... but the thing is... our wedding is on a saturday night. it ends at 1am. they cant be up that late. so if she's there... i dont want her to leave 45 minutes into it, and waste 2 heads as i'm sure she would bring her bf.
so we decided not to go... but she will come to the wedding to pick them up. my mother will probably bring them outside to her

i would also like to add...we were open to inviting her and when mentioned to FH's friends and mother they strongly said no lol. they said it would be nothing but trouble.
but its hard...if you think she will cause problems then no...dont open the invite. tell her you'll send her pictures. from what i remember of past things you said, she is crazy and she puts your FH through hell...she prob doesnt deserve to be there. send her an email with pics lol

Re: FH's ex
I think if it makes you uncomfortable in any way-then no she shouldn't be there. Its your day and you shouldn't have to walk down the aisle and catch a glimpse of her. She can see pics if she wants to see what her kids did in the wedding. Good luck

It's hard b/c you have to maintain a relationship with her for the sake of FH's children...but it she is going to do something inappropriate that don't do it

Re: FH's ex
have the photog take a really cute pic of the kids. and you can send it to her. if you and FH really want to be nice, you can frame it too.
if she crashes the church, dont get upset...but i wouldnt go out of my way to invite her.
maybe she doesnt even want to come...i wouldnt stress it.

ITA - if you had a better relationship than I can understand her going.
But if she wants to show up at the church there is really no stopping her lol

good point...i might 'invite' her to the church so that she doesnt make it a point to demand that she has to be there ...

Re: FH's ex
Thanks girls. I appreciate the advice! I dont think I will invite her...and hopefully wont even notice her if she's at the church. I just hope my sister doesnt see her. She hates her more than I do! LOL
