FH's family is being reeeeeal mature (kinda long)

Original post by AeroJenn

When we began the wedding process we gave FILs 105 spaces to fill -- we told them invite whoever you want.

FMIL has a HUGE family. On her mom's side she has like 30 cousins. She only invited 16 out of the 30 b/c she had a lot of other people to invite. She invited the ones that she's closest to and that FH has met. WELL....fastforward to now (getting the RSVPs back). FMIL gets an email from one of the cousins that she DIDNT invite saying this:

Jean. I wasnt going to say anything, but it really bothered me and was really rude that I didnt get an invitation to the wedding. I heard money is an issue (okay WHAT??? dont know where she heard this, but money had nothing to do with it ).

Anyway, long story short, because FMIL didnt invite her ENTIRE extended family, all the ones who WERE invited are now ALLLLLL responding NO!!!!! I feel bad for FILs, but more than that, I'm fuming that they had the balls to email her and complain that they werent invited. Its none of their business

Sorry for the vent.....just got soooo mad.

I'm very sorry to hear that you are having such a stressful time, especially when this is supposed to be a joyous time for you and FH.

As joyous as weddings are supposed to be sometimes people use them as ways to be mean, vindictive or to divide family. You hear about some really odd stories of people inviting just certain relatives just to cause friction with others. Or people not attending just to spite.

My best advice for this is to relax, be confident that no matter what horrible things people do you and your FH will share the rest of your lives together and at the end of the day it's all that matters.

That stinks, Jenn. Sorry to hear. It's really strange that happy occasions bring out such ****** attitudes in folks. I'm starting to think about niagara falls or vegas... who's with me?

I'm so sorry for you. I know exactly how you feel. When we send out our invites I'm real worried a similar thing will happen with my side of the family... There is just all kinds of drama and old fights that come out every time a big event like a wedding comes along. It's amazing how immature families can be!

Similar situation - at my shower it seems someone wasn't invited and they called my FMIL and cleared it with her to come but NEVER bothered to call my mother who IS PAYING for my shower. Now that is BALLLLLLLLSSSSSSS. I am a little annoyed b/c I couldn't invite my own family mind you the shower HAS NOTHING to do with the grooms family since my FH and I don't even see or really know them other then immediate family or friends, and there is more of them then my own family but whatever my FH and I already agreed that when we have our first child there will be 2 separate showers, b/c I WILL not put my mom through that ever again. Her own daughter's shower and she was nice enough to allow more people from the in law side then her own

I am so sorry you guys are going through this. The worst is definitely brought out of people with weddings. Hopefully they will see the error of their ways and apologize.

my thoughts exactly. I was like, ya know....if i wasnt invited to a wedding, i might be a little bummed, but I would assume there was a reason behind it. I wouldnt get my panties all in a bunch about it unless it was someone I was very close to. what do these people care? they've never even met FH and I and they havent spoken to FMIL in years

People are flat ridiculous.
We are finding that out now with my 'small' NY shower. I am not looking forward to wedding rsvps.

Sweetie...it wil all be ok in the end. They should not have put your mom in that position by that e mail...real nerve they have.

But hey..I believe in Karma...

And I believed you will have a fabulous day, no matter what

Karma...............thats all I have to say!! Your wedding will be filled with people who WANT to be there from the very beginning. And thats what matters.

Re: FH's family is being reeeeeal mature (kinda long)

It is amazing how family members begin to unravel during the whole wedding process. My Uncle RSVP'd no b/c I didn't invite his daughter (let's put it this way, if she saw me on the street she would have no idea who I was) Needless to say y mother made up this story saying that it was an oversight on the mailing label and it was supposed to say '& Family'. So he said he would come and would check w/ his daughter on her RSVP'd. The best is, she said no. I wouldn't stress it, but I fell bad for your FIL for the guilt trip the rest of the family is giving her.
