Try a mini poodle. Poodles actually have hair (like humans) rather than fur, so they don't shed. Whatever kind of dog you get, just make sure you don't buy it from a pet store, go to a reputable breeder instead. Good luck!!!

Oh, I know...I have a doggie in Ohio that I had to give away he is a big yellow lab, we drove 45 minutes to find a reputable breeder! But, don't worry, he loves his new home...sleeps in the bed and on the couchjust like he did at my dad's house! Any suggestions on a breeder in LI ?

I love my miny dachsund! She doesn't really shed much at all. We do use the wee wee pads just in case, but she is good at holding it! Good luck!

Back when I thought we were finallly moving to an apt where we could have dogs, I did a lot of research on the internet to find a good breeder. In general, look for someone who is very careful about who they're giving this puppy to. You might want to start by going to the Westminster Kennel Club website. They often have info on the breed and links to other webpages.

Shitzu's are great and dont shed, also they usually only grow to about 15lbs. I dont recommend a Lhasa Apso, I have one and they are not great around kids (I didnt know this when I went and got him) so he has to go into his crate. Hope this helps.

I laugh at the bladder thing becaue DH and I were looking in a pet magazine yesterday and they actually sell dog litter now. You can train your dog to go in a litter box now. We thought that was so funny. Good Luck finding the perfect puppy!!

I have a yorkie and that is the reason we got him. And hes tiny too . He weighs 5 lbs. and is full grown

I think she did shed just a little, but I also had 2 cats at the time, so it was hard to figure out the hair source I have contact info for a breeder if you're interested. Back when I thought we were going to move into an apt that allowed dogs, I was all set to get another one.

My Gizmo is a shihtzu also but he is not purebred. He has hair, not fur and he doesnt shed. He is the cutest most lovable dog.

I just read this post and others recommended it already - a friend of mine has one - and yes they do not shed - they shed as much as a human would because they have hair -
ETA: My friends shitzu doesnt get walked really - she puts down a wee wee pad and the doggy goes there

Shitzu's are the cutest!! I saw a Cairn (sp?) Terrier today that was absolutely adorable! TY all for the suggestions. I am going to look at the Westminster website now.

WHat about a Pekinese! I have one and what a wonderful pet. Minimal shedding if you keep it groomed very short.

Im not sure if i'nm spelling it correctly, but my parents just got a non shedding, hypo-allergenic doggie - a bijon frise...she's adorable!!!

Now I like the yorkies and bichon frise!! 5lbs full grown, that is perfect! I just had the FI email breeders for the cairn terrier, yorkie and bichon frise. I am going to have a kid...without the pain of childbirth. woot woot!

Bichons are SO cute!!! I liked Yorkies, but was worried that they'd be too delicate. I read on some website that even accidently dropping a cup on a Yorkie could kill them. I'm really clumsy, so that ended that little fantasy
