Finding and buying THE dress

Original post by ls2015

Ladies, where did you find your wedding dress, and where did you end up buying your wedding dress?

I've been going to smaller places because that's where friends and family said they bought their dresses, but I've found that they don't have a large selection of dresses to choose from. I'm all about getting the best dress for the best price, but can't seem to find my dress! Where should I be looking?

TIA :)

I went up to Boston and went to vows. I found my dream dress at an amazing price.

I want to go there!! How was your shopping experience??

You definitely should. I had an amazing experience there. When you first go in they tell you to look around and pick out 5 dresses you want to try on, but my consultant Geraldine actually found my dress for me. I brought a few pictures of dresses I liked and showed them to her and she brought me the one. And it just so happened to be a third of the retail price. Even though it was a sample it looks brand new.

I got my dress at Angel Bridal in E. Islip. It's a smaller place, but they have a great selection and great pricing. Really nice ladies!

I'm going to tack on a question to this thread.

Would you say these places are budget friendly? I am talking dresses less than $700, maybe less than $500. I am nervous about going already because I am plus size, but to then deal with expensive dresses...A little anxious about it.

I found my dress at RK bridal and purchased it at a smaller bridal store. For $500 try davids bridal.

Go to vows, they have plenty of dresses in that price range, and they do have plus sizes.

I am plus size too. I tried on dresses at davids, bridal world in Baldwin and wound up buying my dress on sale at bridal suite of Huntington. I told them all my budget up front. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! Def checking out the places everyone mentioned. Just got a little nervous- the consultant at the third salon I went to told me I should only go to two or three places max, to not try on too many dresses because then I'll never find it...etc. and I got nervous; I felt like I was only getting started!

And def go to David's bridal for budget-friendly dresses. Also, my cousin got her dress a few years ago from Helen's in Commack, and she paid $800 I believe. Not sure of the prices now, but something to check out.

I just got mine at Village Bridal & Boutique in Babylon. It's kind of small but still had a lot of choices. Lilettes in bellmore is good. Wedding Salon in Manhasset is nice too but maybe a little more expensive.

NY Bridal Outlet in Farmingdale. They are the sister store to Village Bridal in Babylon. Had the most amazing experience there!

Bridal Suite of Centereach and ask for Aileen if you can. She was amazing and picked out THE dress for me. She was so patient when I went back and forth if I wanted to say yes because I didn't want the whole process to be over! Also, they don't carry anything over $2000 which is nice to know! I found beautiful dresses that were only 800! It was awesome. Also, NY Bridal of Farmingdale had a huge selection and were so incredibly helpful and their dresses were all sizes 22 and such so were great for trying on when you aren't a twig!

I went to Renates in Lindenhurst for mine. It's a smallish shop but has a very wide selection.

For something under $800 I'd definitely say try Estelles or Davids Bridal.

I am going to RK BRIDAL today!! My budget is a bit higher but I am not too far off from you. I'll sneak peak the plus size dresses and FM you if its worth going :)

Btw I know 5 plus size brides and they went to David's and others got a Maggie sottero( you can go to vows or farmingdale bridal outlet and get samples of designer dresses for half the price) and thy don't charge extra for plus-
