Fine China
I was just wondering how much everyone's fine china was that they picked for their registry? There are so many that I like, but I feel that they are way too expensive. How much do you think is too much for fina china?

Re: Fine China
Although people say I should, I am not registering for china.I feel it will take away from alot off my registry. The china I want is almost $3k!! for the entire set.(Waterford federal Platinum, I think thats what it's called).
Even if I get some pieces, after the wedding, we plan to conceive (hope to
) right away, so between baby & saving for a house, there is no money to be buying myself the rest of what I don't get at my shower. As for getting it as a Christmas present or some other occasion, I can think of many other things I'd rather have such as a tennis bracelet, new car (lease is up soon).....etc.
For those registering for it, I hope you get the whole set!
Good Luck!

Re: Fine China
my china is Lenox. It is $100 for a 5-piece place setting (although the MSRP is $143). some of the pieces go as high as $180 but that's it.

Re: Fine China
I would like Royal Doulton's Lichfield. It retails at $165 for 5pc, but it can be found on sale for around $100.The FH would rather me not register for china because he manufactures it. I just love the pattern!!! I haven't registered yet, so we'll see who 'wins'!

Re: Fine China
I'm with Jennbaby - I am not registering for fine china either....and you should see some people's reactions!!! They look completely horrified, like I am committing some kind of crime. But.... I think you should pick what you like (within reason) because it will be no fun to register if the only thing people can buy you is 1 fork!!! One of my friends did that.....I thought she was going to have to open one utensil from me at her bridal shower. Luckily I was able to find one thing on her registry in my range.

Re: Fine China
I LOVE my formal china. Honestly I could have 10 sets of dishes- I just love having different ones.I think that you should chose a pattern that is going to stand the test of time, and is not too trendy. Also, stick with colors that you historical love, not just something you started to like.
If you have a variety of gifts in all price ranges on your registery then you should be fine. I had $7.00-a few hundred on there. No one wants to purchase 1 fork for a bridal shower. So try to have a selection.
In terms of price it all depends. If you love a pattern that costs $150 per salad plate, then just do not expect to get many full place settings unless you have a very weathy family that normally gives large gifts.

Re: Fine China
I chose a Lenox pattern at Fortunoff that we both loved. It was $69.99 a place setting. We received all the place settings and some accessories too. I did not even consider place settings that were above this price range.

Re: Fine China
I would never have gotten a full set - too expensive! I just did everyday dishes, but I have some crown victoria lovelace china from my late grandmother, only dinner dishes, berry bowls and cups/saucers. I have been buying salad/soup stuff on line to make it a complete set. I hinting around to people (BP, mom) as to what I needed to complete the set, but I guess because you can only find it on line no one got me any of it!

Re: Fine China
I didn't register for china either. It isn't me to bring out the 'good dishes' for a few occassions, JMO, it is a waste. My mom has had white Pfaltzgraff for YEARS and uses that as her good stuff and I love it, it is heavy and isn't expensive to add to or replace. We registed for Rio Pfaltzgraff, that isn't as classic as white but it will do fine. Also we got FH's grandmothers china and if we need it for a holiday or something, we can use that.

Re: Fine China
I didn't register for fine china either. I know that in 5 or 10 years my taste will completely change, so I think I'll wait a while. I did register for really nice everyday dishes that I can spruce up for holidays and special occasions with fancy linens, flowers, candles...that kind of thing. Same for crystal. I DIDregister for crystal however.

Re: Fine China
We registered for Noritake, Platinum Traditions. Its was $49.99 a place setting. Very classic. White with platinum trim. We got 10 place settings (5 from my mother in law). I believe we got that much because we didnt register for anything really expensive. I feel the same way you girls do that we would never get a lot if we register for anything to expensive. So I was thrilled. Plus it is the same design as one they have in Lenox for $150 a place setting. So......... All we would be paying for is the name.

Re: Fine China
While we won't be using our china now, I wanted to have a complete set for when we got older, and actually entertained on our own!We chose Lenox's Pearl Innocence pattern in ivory, which sells for $100 per place setting.
I peeked on my registry and it looks like we'll have just about all the pieces! We've been living together for 3 + years so we didn't need a lot of the everyday things.....

Re: Fine China
my lenox setting (ivory frost with platinum line) was priced anywhere between $100-$140 a setting (depending on where you went) BUT i was sooo lucky because i just walked into the lenox outlet one day in secaucus new jersey to browse and there was my beloved china set at 60% off!!!! the only thing is you have to look through and make sure that you don't get a piece with scratches, etc....the service is no frills, but i managed to take home 12 flawless settings at less than half the price!!also got my lenox stemware from there too....lenox phoenix platinum at about $10/glass....regular price is $30 (i think)

Re: Fine China
Like Teri said, although we aren't going to use it right away, when I am older I wanted to have my own set of fine china. We even have a house with a formal dining room adn I don't see myself using it for awhile. We registered for 12 place setting of Lenox's Hartwell House and got 8. It sells for $139 a setting.
We also reigstered for 12 each of crystal goblets, wine and champagne flutes and got it all. We also registered for real silverward and didn't get any!! And the silverware wasn't too expensive - $55 for a setting.

Re: Fine China
We went back and forth on the china issue, since its not really our style. But then we found one at Crate & Barell that we loved - its called the Platinum Line. Its very simple and has more modern lines. It was $79 a place setting, and we received all but one so far (we registered for 12).We received the serving pieces as well.
