My horses are stabled a couple of blocks from the Islip side of the park... we ride in the park all the time. Please pray they get the fire out soon. I'm really worried.
Here's the article: (04/23/07) OAKDALE – Twenty fire departments have responded to a brush fire at Connetquot State Park in Oakdale. The fire is burning close to Sycamore Avenue and Church Street. White smoke is covering a large area in and around the park.
Connetquot State Park Preserve maintains 3,473 acres of land and water for the protection of animals. It also has 50 miles of trails for various activities.
The flames broke out around 12:15 p.m.

yes agreed - the deff. need to start up doing slow burn/control burn forestation controls on Long Island. I think the pine barrons are really due for a big fire soon.
I drove down Vets around 1pm to FH's shop and the smoke was ridiculous. He's right in Bohemia on Ocean Ave and you could really smell it. The smoke was so thick it was getting difficult to drive. Hope all was ok ...
