First Date: Kiss Goodnight or Kiss of Death?

First Date: Kiss Goodnight or Kiss of Death?

So Mr Boots and I have been playing matchmaker for his friend BoyScout, and of course the girl he digs (and who digs him) we didn't set up! But she's very cool so we're pleased as punch.

Anyway, BoyScout wants to ask her on a date, but he wants to double with us and go to dinner. I said that's too high pressure for her, Mr Boots thinks it will showcase BoyScout's personality.

So here's my question... What were the best first dates you've been on? What marked the Kiss of Death for a first date?

Kiss of Death: Well, I'm not sure if it was the Met game or the fact that I really didn't like the guy & have no idea why I said I would go out with him ...

For me, dinner and a movie was the the worst! It was too formal and you'd sit in the dark, silently for 2 hours. Also, I thought the guys who did those dates were boring.

I prefered activities. Mini-golf, pool, museum, carnival... it gave you something to talk about besides yourself.

Hmmm, Kiss of Death First Date:
When he pulled his dagger, and yes I mean a knife, out of a sheath in his coat to cut his steak. Yes, I attracted ALL the winners before JT.....

My best first date EVA was to a science center! It was so much fun--there were all different stations to do experiments--building a dam with bricks to stop flow of water, etc...I really like activity dates where there isn't as much pressure just on conversation. Of course, first date with DH was dinner and that was good too. Worst first date ever was a doctor who tried to get so serious...Asking seriously if I thought there was life on other planets, and afterlife...I tried to make a joke of it and he said, 'No, really.' He then proceeded to ask me if I thought I would be a SAHM and how many kids I wanted. In his defense, he was about 6 years older than me so maybe he was just in wife hunt mode, but I totally wasn't at that time.

Ok, to answer seriously, though, I HATED HATED HATED going to dinner on a first date. I was always so freaked out that I would spit something all over him or just look weird eating in general. I liked no pressure first dates like going to Borders or Starbucks or a carnival. Something less formal.

The best first dates I been on were when it was something casual/well-planned out; also something that kept you busy in case conversation lagged (mini-golf, bowling, sports event)

However, if that spark is there, no matter what you do, it'll be a good time.

Kiss of death: When the check comes & he says, well you had an extra drink, you can add $5. more. WTH!!!!!!!!!!

Also bringing a dozen long-stem red roses on the first date. That's just too much & too soon.

Worst kiss of death ever, when we were sitting in my car listening to the last inning of the Mets game & I look over & he had pulled it out (totally unprovoked), just had it out & then proceeds to say, you know you want to touch it. OMG!!!!!!!

Oh no pool! No need for me to be in a bathing suit on the first date!!!!

Best First Date: DH and I went for Chinese food and ice skating and I fell and he helped me and didn't make me feel stupid.

Kiss if Death Date: In college, a friend of mine was dating someone from Kings Point and he asked her to get dates for his friends and I was stupid and wore a cute plaid wrap dress and clogs and the other girls wore jeans. We all hung out in my friend's dorm room and talked and watched TV and eventually the guys fell asleep.

yeah, I haven't gone on many real dates, but my boss ( who is single) has rules & one of them is NO dinner on the first date!

Eating can be weird & ifthe date is bad, it can go on too long. She would say meet for drinks. Does Boy Scout drink?

Maye you could all go out for drinks, that will be more casual & less, first datey. If they have alreday met in a group settig, maybe they do need to go out on their own.

I'm all for fun dates--the zoo, bowling, etc, so there is something to talk about.

Beth! I meant shooting pool! Not swimming!

And Juliet... I hated wasting a cute outfit on a bad date!

One of the oddest but really fun first dates I went on was just a walk on the boardwalk at Long Beach and we ended up playing frisbee!

This one guy psychoanalyzed me for 45 solid minutes and then asked me how I felt about sex on the first date

Re: First Date: Kiss Goodnight or Kiss of Death?

Best First Date was with FH....long story but he thought some friends were joining us at an early movie (they weren't)...went to the movies, then to dinner, and were on our way home an dI had asked him if had ever been to the Georgetown Harbour, he hadn't and I suggested we go sometime. He said 'How about now?'

So we walked down to the water and sat and talked and talked and he bought me roses, then we stopped at a bar, more to use the bathroom than to drink, and then he walked me home and kissed me.

kiss of Death first dates: Drinking at a bar BEFORe our movie so I had to pee the whole time and was a bit drunk, going to a baseball game with a guy, not quite sure if it was a date and then trying to get rid of him afterwards as he tried to go out and kiss me...

Re: First Date: Kiss Goodnight or Kiss of Death?

Dinner dates definitely were not the way to go with me ... up until my early 30's, I had a *phobia* () of eating in front of people. I would get so nervous just at the idea of it, that I would become physically sick and I'm pretty sure stood up a guy or two because of it and just never answered the phone again when they called!!!

Whew! OK then! But I have managed to poke DH in the eye with a pool cue so maybe that is just too dangerous for a first date....

So wait, how does BoyScount know Girl-he-digs? How do you all know eachother if they haven't been on a date?

Me too!! I don't eat pretty, so I was very self-concious!

Heather... We all met her at a party last weekend and she's very cool, but they should be on their own for a while. My idea is this: this weekend is the Nautical Mile Festival in Freeport, so I'm going to suggest that BoyScout takes DateGirl out for coffee or something beforehand, and then they can meet up with us if they want!

Good idea? Bad idea?

Re: First Date: Kiss Goodnight or Kiss of Death?

One of the best first dates was when a guy took me to the US Open. He was a real tennis freak, I don't know much about it at all, but it was still fun.

I've always loved those mini golf, carnival, arcade, go-kart racing type dates

Can't think of a really awful one right now, but I always seemed to get tricked into going otu with guys. There was this one guy in college that really liked me and I just totally wasn't into him. He caught up to me after class one day and asked what I was doing that weekedn. I didn't really think before I said Oh, nothing really. And then he asked me to his formal I couldn't say no because I had just blatantly admitted that I wasn't doing anything. He was one of those guys who tried to pull you real close when you danced. I bailed as quickly as I could, told him I was going home because I was really tired, went up to my room, changed my clothes and went to catch up with my friends!
