It was so overwhelming!!!!!!!! I cried in front of the other teachers in my grade! How embarrassing!! I couldn't help it, I really tried not to get frazzled, but it didn't work out for me :(

Aww, don't worry, it's perfectly normal to be overwhelmed on the first day of a new job, ESP one as stressful as teaching!
Don't worry...after a little bit of time goes by, you'll feel a lot better. In the meantime, just know that it's normal to feel the way you do right now!
Good luck!

dont worry about it! it is normal to feel overwhelmed when starting anything new, and im sure your co-workers remember what it was like when they started working! take deep breaths when you are feeling overwhelmed and think it will get easier!!

You would be hard pressed to find a teacher who didn't cry when they first started! No matter how much you *think* you know about teaching, you truly have NO idea until you have done it, and it is overwhelming! I've been teaching for 4 years and i was crying yesterday lol. Stick with it!!!!!!!!!!!!! And vent to us!

Sorry your first day was rough. It's not easy being a teacher. Hope everything goes better tomorrow and don't worry that your co-workers saw you cry.

Re: First Day as a Teacher
My first day as a professor, I cried before class started, then tried to convince FH to sneak into the back of the class for support (we eventually decided this was a ridiculous idea and didn't go though it). When the class started to enter the room, I had to keep telling myself not to cry. I promise it gets easier!

Re: First Day as a Teacher
My first year I cried my whole first weekend! Then went back on Monday for more. 6 years later it's still overhelming in the beginning. Don't worry about getting everything in at this point, just be calm and gain control of the kids now, or you never will ...and then it will be a rough year!

Re: First Day as a Teacher
I cry probably once a week. It's all right to cry in front of the other teachers, because they're probably going through it as well! You're going to get through it.
When I first started, I constantly thought 'oh my GOD, I can't do this! I cleverly tricked them into thinking I'm capable of teaching!'. Just keep reminding yourself that you got hired for a reason, and that you can do this.
Sending positive thoughts your way!

Thanks ladies! You make me feel not so crazy!
School never prepares you for what teaching is all about. It's amazing how much you have to do/learn/know in a short period of time. I have a lot of work this weekend, but I am trying to enjoy it at the same times. Thanks for listening!!!!!!!!

Exactly THIS!!! Nothing in college teaches you or prepares you for actual teaching. We learn on the job, and we cry and scream and feel like giving up, but thats okay..it will get better. I have been there! Vent away when needed!

I thought I was the only one who felt this way! I kept thinking they were going to walk through the door and say 'Oops we made a mistake, get out!'
