First official melt down-kinda long-sorry!***UPDATE***

So when my mom came to visit in December we decided to go look at wedding gowns. I just so happened to find one I loved and we decided to order it. We let the salon know that since the wedding was so far off, and I had no where to store the dress we'd like the order 'held' until it got a little closer to the date. Leaving of course time for it to be shipped to the store, altered and shipped to my mom in NY. We were assured that this wasnt a problem, in fact the designer will look at the date and make those in need first. Cool! Done deal.
Today I get the call that the dress is in and I have 14 days to come pick it up and start alterations. ***?? I called the salon and of course the Manager who knew about my 'special needs' wasnt there but would be tomorrow. Well I have to work tomorrow so I let them know that my mom would contact her. Need less to say once I told my mom what happened, she called.
Long story short-the dress has been discontinued so they just went ahead and made it. The salon said they dont normally notify clients when their dress is being discontinued. Ok, fine but mine was a bit of a different situation. And where was my bridal consultant who was oh so fabulous at the time of purchase???? For insurance purposes they can only store the dress for 90 days and I dont necessarily want my gown 'hanging out' anywhere for about a year. JMO.
The Manager is supposed to call my mom tomorrow. Mom is going to see what my options are. Maybe have them pay for the 3x the dress would be shipped? Maybe use the deposit for a different dress? I love my dress but Im sure there are many others I could love.
Im just so frustrated and kinda sad..............

Thanks for letting me vent. Hopefully it will all get worked out.

***UPDATE*****
Contacted the mgr today and she said that since the designer is overseas, if something is discontinued they just go ahead and make the dress bc there is no communication between the manufacturerer and them. What? They have telephones overseas and computers! The whole situation just leaves me a bit turned off. We are going to speak on the 15th and see what she can offer. My wonderful parents said that if I am not comfortable taking the dress and dealing with them they will lose the deposit and I can get something else.

Aww-don't worry. You are not overreacting. Everyone has these experiences!

Is there absolutely nowhere you could store the dress? What about asking them to pay for storage charges at a cleaners or something?

Don't worry - does anyone that you can trust have a spare room where you can hang it and it not be touched after alterations?

My best friend said that I can store it at her house which is an option. I just feel like its not fair to have her do that since it will be there for so long ya know?

I cant store it at my place but I guess worst case scenario I will just have it sent to my parents, back to Atl for alterations and then back to NY for the wedding.

Although my best friend said that I could store it at her house. Its just a long time..............

Re: First official melt down-kinda long-sorry!

They should have called you when they found out it was being discontinued and asked you if you wanted to go ahead with the order. So their 1st mistake. Second, I do NOT think you should have your alterations now. It's ridiculous that they want to do it when you are so far out. Mistake #2.

Depending on what you find out, and if you go ahead with this dress, I would take possession of it, and then about 4-5 months out from your date, have it professionally cleaned, and then bring it back to your salon and do your alterations then.

If you decide to not go that route, don't worry about finding another dress. There are thousands out there and I'm sure you'll find one you love just as much. Good luck!

I agree 100%...you have to weigh out your options and then make the best decision for you

Stacey, I don't know if this will help, but Debi was engaged before, bought the gown of her dreams, and the fiance walked!!!! The gown was stored here at my place, and at Debi's apt. when she moved. It's been stored for about 5/6 yrs. and it's fine!!! Pics in my album. Mary MOB

I don't think you are over reacting at all!!! Maybe there is a closet somewhere that you can store it until you are ready to do the alterations??

I deft. recommend telling all us Brides what bridal center you went to so no one goes there!!!!

Thank you so much! I think I am just really frustrated bc we made it very claer that we didnt want the dress until closer to the date. It kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. Something will work out right?

You are not over reacting at all. Their policy sounds pretty strange and discomforting. How does someone take it upon themselves to ship a dress without contacting anyone and then the actual store thinks this process is normal. I am glad your parents told you if you weren't satisified you can order something else. There has to be a way that the store can work something out. Hope it works it!
