So FH and I applied for our passports way back in the middle of March. Now here we are more than 14 weeks later and we still dont have them. Ive tried to call the passport office but its an exceedingly looooooong recording that goes through all this bs and then hang up on you!!! During the message it sais that they wont help you uniless your travel date is within two weeks. Well im not leaving until august 20th, however they have our birth certificates, I kind of really need those so I can get my Marrage liscences!!!!!!!! I tried to contact a congressman but he was unable to help, and refered me to someone else, between school working full time and wedding planning, I dont have time to be chasing the government around trying to get my birth certificates back! this is so crazy!

Re: Flipping out a bit
When you ordered your passport they should have mailed you a piece of paper with a website where you could track your passport so you would know where it is. (You should be getting it really soon). The only other thing I can think of is that you are going to have to call Albany (if you were born in NY) and ask them to send you another copy of your birth certificate. If you need the website to track your passport FM me. I think I have it at home I will look when I get back from work if you need it. Hope that helps!

Re: Flipping out a bit
Because of the new travel restrictions, they have a back-log on passport applications.
Here is the website for you to check the status of your application though.

Re: Flipping out a bit
Yeah they are on BIG TIME back order for passports. I'd just lie and say you are leaving within 2 weeks. I wouldn't want my birth certificate floating around. It's a freakin nightmare. Good luck

Re: Flipping out a bit
FH applied for a passport back in Feburary and he still hasn't gotten it yet. We're traveling this Thurs.
There is a Travel Accommodation Annoucement effective June 8, 2007. There is a huge backlog of passport application
In regards to your marriage license, you can get it with your drivers license.
Hope it all works out!

Can you get your marriage license anywhere in Nassau and Suffold Counties with just a driver's license?

Re: Flipping out a bit
Sorry to hear about the added stress. Maybe just go to the village hall where you were born and get another copy of your birth certificates.
Good Luck

Re: Flipping out a bit
ive been tracking them, they just say being processed.... I really dont have the extra money to spend to have my birth certificates reissued. I had to do that to get mine to get the passport in the first place. (Some liquid got spilled on my original so the seal was no longer there) It cost eitehr 60 or 80 bucks... id hate to have to spend that again just because the government cant get their act toghter. ugh, I hate this

Re: Flipping out a bit
You can order your birth certificate online and it comes pretty quickly. When I ordered mine I think it cost me #30. That ***** that you would have to pay for another copy-- but for piece of mind maybe that is an option for you I wouldn't worry on the passports -- they will come soon

Re: Flipping out a bit
At this point, I recommend going to get new copies of your birth certificates.
Otherwise, go to get your marriage license and see if they ask for your BCs. Some places don't really check it seems. If they don't, you're okay. If they do, you should see how long it takes to get new copies.
