Well, good luck to my ladies living in Florida. In about a week, you're going to have the biggest set of a-holes moving down there (my bil/sil). So good luck and stay away from any NY Transplants with the intitials JB or WB.

I grew up in NY and now live in Florida. I have a much better life here in Florida, the real estate is outrageous in NY, in Florida my home is brand new and was within our price range. And how nice it is to get a paycheck and not have NYS or NYC take a percentage of it.
Florida doesn't have taxes?
ANd you are lucky you bought when you did Florida real estate will be like NY soon enough AND with less income !! That isn't a good situation in my opinion
it's not good, it's great. We buy the real estate now, and in 10 years when it's as high as NY, we sell it and are rich!!! LOLOLOL

Not to sound mean, but if you are going to sell, where will you go? To a bigger house? Won't they be more expensive too? It is the same here. We could not sell our house and move up because it is too expensive. Even if we could afford the mortgage, we probably could not afford the taxes and utilities! I am not knocking where people want to live, but I have known many situations of people moving to Fl and they are all not great. I know you have more registration fees on cars than NY does. The price of some things are cheaper but so is the pay. I know for a fact that the supermarkets are not cheaper. Eating out is but not getting food for home. Everything equals out unless, like I had said before, you move with the same pay.

Well, if you're talking in a geographic sense. If the US was compared to the human body, LI is in the ideal location to be the armpit. In that case, Florida would be more like a foot.
I like your analysis..

I just think sometimes people think 'the grass is always greener'. Yes, for some people it is great (my parents moved with my father's salary from NY so they did well), but my dh's family moved there with no jobs and no houses and they are making nothing and live in not as nice homes and are constantly moving because their landlord sells the houses.

New Jersey would be the armpit, not LI.
