Ok, I have been to Pedestals, Bayport flower House and Flower Michele. None can give me flowers for my average size wedding for under $6,000 (15 tables and 3 BM).
I heard Flower Michele was well priced but they were the highest. I think John is really fabulous (talented and really nice guy) but his prices seemed really, really high (charging almost $500 for flowers for hall table seems way too high.)
I may want to see another florist just to compare.
Besides Jack and Rose or Burtons, can anyone recommend a talented florist whom they think is reasonably priced.
I want great flowers but can't spend $500 for a hall table!

Re: Florist help
$6000 is crazy!! We are using Petite Floral in Bellmore and it is way under $4000. I have 25 tables and 6 BM's. We are also using out of season flowers.

Re: Florist help
I'm using Flower Michele and I have 14 tables and 4 BM and am paying no where near that. I think it really depends more on the flowers you want than than the number of tables. Some flowers are pricier than others. Good luck.

Re: Florist help
But can I just vent for a second here? I said specifically to each florist that I wanted to know which flowers were the best value and they told me that I didn't pick anything expensive. I kept asking - 'Is this flower expensive?'
When I asked about Lily of the Valley for a bouquet - they said they wouldn't work and are too expensive. Nothing was said about the other flowers I chose
I don't want all roses but I want some colored roses in the centerpiece with other brightly colored flowers (hydrangea, bells of ireland, snapdragons, eucalyptus, bells of ireland and some orchids)
Also - we agreed they would be small centerpieces because they are so brightly colored. Geez - $225 for a SMALL centerpiece!!!!
It is so hard to really tell what you will get for your money. Maybe one florists small centerpiece is bigger than other florists regular centerpiece.
I think because I don't want a typical arrangements - florists really have nothing to show me as an example.
Also - it seems impossible to negotiate. With my band, I just said they were above my budget and they met my price. I know I will get the same service as if I had paid full price. however with florists, if I say they are out of my budget - they will just suggest using half as many flowers. I will never know if I am getting a good deal.

Re: Florist help
Yikes. I'm at a loss, I have no idea how they price flowers. One suggestion might be giving the florist your budget and the general idea of what you looking for and have them work around that. Hopefully that will work.

Re: Florist help
I had a very similar experience with florists. They do not negotiate. They simply subtract flowers to meet your price.
I also met with Flower Michele. He was much higher than the price I got from Flowers by Brian. I ended up going with Matthew Robbins from Artfool, a 'famous' floral designer. He was much more expensive than the two otehrs, but he is more of an artist.

wow if you did not want expensive florwers then this is absurd!!!! Flower Michele I hear raised his prices. When I was looking, Flowers by Brian was the highest quote I got, then Flower Michele. Flower Michele gave me a quote on the phone without knowing what flowers I wanted or anything!! I found that strange.
I'm using LABlossom. She only does weddings. She has a huge portfolio and can get you any flowers you want. Her prices are excelent too! LAblossom

Re: Florist help
Marisa John is really great. I'm just freaked that the prices were so much. It could be the flowers he is using but I was under the impression they were reaonable. In fact - I'm using hydrangea where I can because they aren't cheap but they are big so you need fewer of them. If you just want regular roses - I know it's less expensive. It might also be labor costs - maybe the designs take longer?
Anyway, I would recommend him. He's talented and maybe your estimate will be lower. I seem to be the only one getting these high estimates.
