Ladies...since I live in Florida, I tried to visit some florists when I was there (in NY) a few months back. One seemed like I had plenty of time to choose. The other told me he couldn't fairly quote me prices, b/c they could go up or down depending on the market by my July wedding. My question is...can I book a florist if I haven't decided on flowers yet? I have a hard time envisioning my bouquets w/o samples. I guess I'm a real visual person and pictures just aren't cutting it. When you girls booked your florist, did you sign a contract? Pay a deposit? What? Help!

Re: Florist help!!!
I booked my florist without being sure of what flowers I wanted. I signed a contract and left a deposit. The florist that told you he couldn't quote you is full of crap. He should have given you prices for the flowers as they would have cost then. That's the whole benefit of booking early. They give you an 'estimate'. I have signed a contract for a certain amount of $ but if I don't end up having 25 tables and only need 22 cp's, she's not going to charge me for the other 3. When I signed, she gave me the estimate and when I pick the colors I want, we'll go from there.
I highly recommend my florist, Verbena Designs. I did extensive research in this area and she does quality work for a very competitive price. They only do one wedding per day which, in my opinion, is a plus b/c I know she'll be focused on my flowers only that day. Good luck!

Re: Florist help!!!
I just recently booked my florist. We paid a 20 percent deposit. I already know what my dress and my BM's dresses are going to be. So i knew what kind of color scheme I wanted and I let the florist tell me what they thought would look best. He showed me pictures of what they would look like. We settled on a price from there. I don't know that any of this is helpful. I hope it is! Good luck!

Re: Florist help!!!
As always I suggest Flower Michelle.
I booked in March 06 and I didn't have my dress or color yet..... so to answer your question... find the creative florist of choice have an idea of what you MAY want and go from there.
Remember booking the perfect (Flower Michelle ) florist is key- before choosing colors are anything else.

Re: Florist help!!!
I have visited 3 florists. Two of them wanted to know in detail what flowers I wanted and one did not want to discuss specific flowers at all (Burton's) . Since Burton's charges the same for all types of flowers they said specifics could wait.
I would personally suggest at least knowing what types of flowers you want and if you want low or high centerpieces. Also, a color scheme helps too. A lot of times they need to know specific flowers because they price the flowers by TYPE - like roses are less expensive than hydrangeas, etc.
I really liked LA Blossom - we met with her yesterday! She is very creative, down to earth and really willing to work with a budget.

Re: Florist help!!!
I only visited Flower Michele and I know that they said ANYTHING can be changed between now and when they do my samples a few weeks before. I think our deposit was 20% (not sure though). You can definitely book someone without a doubt, if you have an idea of what you would like then tell them and they should be able to draw up an idea of your contract with flowers-you should be able to put down a deposit regardless, either way it still comes out of your total.

Flowers by Burton's is really great because they don't want to know specifics until the date of your wedding gets closer. Also, their brices can hardly be beat.

Re: Florist help!!!
Thanks girls. Both Flower Michelle and Burton's are too far from Ronkonkoma (so says FMIL). And they might charge additional fee for travelling

Try LA Blossom. She is so creative and she's willing to work with your budget. She works out of her home in Huntington so that isn't too far for you.

Re: Florist help!!!
Try calling Flowers by Burton -- I dont think they charge a travel fee for Ronkonkoma.
They are VERY reaosnably priced and you dont need to give them speicifs until you are ready. They'll give you a price based on what you want and then you leave a deposit and see them a month before the wedding with the specifi flowers and colors.

noo don't listen to FMIL! we are having the wedding in deer park and the reception out east and flower michele is not charging extra at all - they told me they even go to westchester and NJ. It is a little further to drive for appointments, but really how many times would you need to go there? I can't imagine more than 2 or 3. That being said there are plenty of wonderful florists out there beyond flower michele...but i wouldn't rule them out for that reason alone. HTH
