Why are flowers so expensive? Has anyone thought of just ordering the flowers from a wholesaler an doing them yourselves? If you have please let me know how that turned out. I'm so stress with these flowers - I'm basically done with all my other major vendors...this one is so difficult!
HELP!!!

Re: Flowers
I am debating using an online wholesaler too and doing it myself. It makes me extremely nervous but it is sooo much cheaper and you can get 10X the amount of flowers.

Try using a local florist or a smaller company.

Re: Flowers
You can always look into using a mom and pop/local florist. I bet you prices will be a lot cheaper. This wasn't an option for me since my RH mandates that I use one of their house florists.

Re: Flowers
im debating.... ive booked with Burtons for my flowers, centerpieces, boots... ect but I am on the fence about using them for centerpieces. its like 1200 for 15 low centerpieces. ive contacted Costco and they take order that someone can pick up the day of your wedding... and their prices are the same as in the store. its 16.99 for 2 dozen roses. i think im going to make a sample myself and see if i like it. my aunt said she would put them all together the day of the wedding. if you have someone who would put them together for you the day of... i would consider it... but i am NOT doing it that day! haha.

Hand issues with Flower Michele, but all i can say is that you should stick to your budget no matter what and they will usually work with you.

Yes, from experience it was definitely a waste of money going with a florist! Not only did she overcharged for the wedding, it was obvious that she used as little flowers as possible to make the CP's and personals. All of the flowers wither by the end of the night. Most were chucked away if the guests didn't take them. I would highly recommend going with a less expensive alternative- go to a green market, supermarket (florist section), wholesale, etc. and order your own flowers and assemble them. It's guarantee to save yourself at least 1-2K.

Re: Flowers
Has anyone considered into the wholesale flower district in Manhattan? You can get amazing prices and choose the best quality flowers yourself. I am seriously considering doing this and having my mom arrange everything. She has had alot of experience with creating centerpieces and working with flowers.

my brother and SIL did this and everything came out great. BUT they had a very very small wedding and they had help from a friend that worked in a florist so she knew what to do. i think wholesale flowers would DEF be the best bet- but only if youre having something relatively work and/or you dont work and you have the help from someone who knows how to arrange flowers, corsages, boutineers, bouquets, etc... good luck!!!

Re: Flowers
I actually live in CT, so I'm not sure how the prices will be down there (prob. a little more) - but several people recommended that I go to Stop and Shop or Stew Leonards. Although I was skeptical at first, I know about 3-4 people who have and both came highly recommended. Just met with one last week and what they showed me was gorgeous. May depend on the actual location as obviously the person doing it would differ but it might be worth a shot. We're talking more in the 700-1000 range rather than several thousand. May be different/ less depending on what you're looking for. For me, flowers weren't high on my priority list and I'd rather put the money somewhere else, but all depends what's most important to you

Re: Flowers
I never realized how much flowers were. I think it's great if you girls can do it yourself. But i did read in a bunch of places here and there that if your going to DIY on anything DON'T let it be the flowers. Not so much putting them together but the delivery, transportation, set up, break down of everything.
I know this makes no sense financially but if someone has a DOC then i'd DEF consider DIY flowers and let them worry about the set up and break down.
For anyone who has done it and can do it that's freakin awesome. I personally would lose my mind!
