FMIL and her dress!!!!

HELP!!!!

OK, so here's the deal...

My FMIL still does not have a dress for the wedding...we are about 3 weeks away from the big day! She finally went looking with me the other day and let me tell you, it did not go well. My FMIL is in denial of her age and size. She insisted that she was a size 14/16 (she is actually a 22/24) and I swear she believes she is not 40, not 30, no not even 20 years old, but somewhere around 16 (she is 56 years old) If you could have seen the dresses she was picking out...OMG! She is also by far the bustiest woman I have ever seen in my life. Let's just say there was a lot of spillage if you catch my drift. I swear the first 10 dresses she picked out were in junior sizes and were something my sister would have worn last year to her friends sweet 16's. My favorite was the hot pink, mid-thigh, rhinestoned 1 shoulder dress with that tulle like stuff underneath. I am not kidding...unbelievable.

Here's the kicker...Anytime I would suggest something more appropriate, she would be offended that I was picking out dresses for a 'mother of the groom'. yes that is right...she wanted to look like his 'sister' she said on more than one occasion and not his mother. The only 2 dresses I could get her to put on that were very figure flattering and in her correct size, she shut down immediately and kept insisting that the dress made her look 'fat' and 'too covered up'!

I give up! What do I do? Do I just let her go shopping on her own and let her look like a fool in front of everyone and ruin all my pics. Or do I stick it out and attempt to argue with her some more to get her to look appropriate for a wedding and preferably the wedding of her son? TIY!!!

Could you take pictures of her in the dresses she picks out compared to the dresses you pick out? Maybe if she sees how silly she looks from someone else's point of view, she may change her mind. If that doesn't work, I'd just let it go. It won't ruin ALL you pictures. Just the ones with her in it. Maybe let your photographer know you're concerned about it. He could probably get a shot or two that wouldn't look terrible.

I feel for you. This is an awkward situation that should NOT have been saved for 3 weeks before the wedding.

. Thats where we were! I thought if she couldn't find it there she wouldnt find it anywhere. The thing is though, there were dresses there, she just continued to shoot them down so she could go squeeze herself into a size she hasn't been in 40 years that could be worn fashionably by a teenager today! LOL!

Does your FMIL have a female relative or close friend that you could enlist to your cause (and who would agree with you)? Maybe if she hears it from someone else she'll take it differently. If she still insists, don't fight her. You have too much other stuff to worry about right now.
