Did you go with your FMIL to pick out her dress or did you let her go on her own? Just curious.

Re: FMIL and her dress- Did you go with her?
My MIL went on her own and I wish I would have gone with her. The dress she picked was nice but a little too casual. She looked a little under dressed compared to many of our guests.

Yes, I did. I wanted to make sure it was really nice.

Oh all I had was drama with FMIL... we went togther she found nothing... she went on her own and she found something that was horrible... ended up the week of the rehersal dinner ordering her another dress...
If you have a specific vision in mind...I say go with and be apart of the dress selection and be mindful. If you could care less... then let her go on her own.

I wanted to go with her, but not to monitor her - just because we both thought it would be a fun bonding experience. However, she decided to go with her sister on a weekday just to 'look' and wound up buying it! I was sad I missed it but not annoyed or anything.

We're going today actually. My FH is going too. We thought it would be fun, but she is really easy going. We're also going to pick a dress for his grandma who can't go out shopping and we need FMIL's input on that.

I didn't go with mine. We just don't have a relationship.
She did wind up buying a creme colored dress though which I wasn't too happy about. But I only was near her when it was picture time and when she said goodbye.

No, because she lives in Florida. we are going down in May for our niece's communion and may squeeze in a dress shopping trip but I doubt it. My FMIL has excellent taste and I trust she'll wear something beautiful.

As long she doesn't rock white, I don't really care what she wears. She knows we are having a formal affair, so if she chooses something casual, she'll be the uncomfortable one, not me. Oh sigh.

I didn't. She was planning to go once with only FSIL, and then asked me to go if she went a second time. But she found her dress on her first trip. However, she did show me a pic of the dress she wanted, and it turns out that the one she had in the pic was the one she bought!

Nope. I only talk to her when I see her. And personally, II wouldn't want to go with her either. I think this is more something you do with your own mother or grandmother...

Nope. I asked her three times if she wanted to go together just because I thought it would be a nice experience, and she ignored me completely and changed the subject all three times...

I didn't and I wish I did (my mother taught me if I didn't have anything nice to say then I shouldn't say it all) - but then again, she didn't even ask.

Just to update - we went yesterday, got a dress for FMIL for our wedding and also for a cousin's wedding that's a few weeks before ours. We got the dresses in about 2 hours and then went out to lunch. It was a nice time. Anyone who is on the fence about asking their FMIL to go should give it a shot.

Heck nooooooooo. She lives in Ohio, but even if she didn't I wouldn't go with her and you couldn't pay me. When I tried to show her my dress for the wedding, she told me she was busy and maybe later (she was....clipping coupons ).
So she can wear whatever and go shopping alone and if its too casual or a bad color or ugly the only person who's going to look stupid is her.

My MIL went buy herself but she was unsure of the one she bought and we went out together to continue to look, but I really liked the one she bought.
