FMIL Day of dress?

Original post by Kimbalina

Ok so my BM's are wearing BLACK for the wedding, Dresses have not been picked out yet,, (hopefully this week or next). But MY mom said that she will not wear BLACK because she doesnt want to blend in with the bridal party in the pictures (I agreed), since my sisters and Fh sisters are part of the bridal party. I appreciated that.... but now FMIL wants to wear BLACK.. I explained what my mom said to FMIL and she said 'oh ok so then if she's not wearing it I will'

I dont want her to wear Black,,,, or White do you think I am right or wrong?

My FMIL wants to wear black too. I tried to convince her not too, but damn FH told her it would be fine!

Don't you love when the FH buts in. They could have nothing to say about any other decision for the wedding but when it comes to mommy the mouth opens. I always look at him with the 'Your A S S is Grass' face when he does stuff like that without asking first. They don't get it - It's Not Ok for them to wear similiar colors.Complementing colors are fine.

I am not trying to be Bridezilla-ish!!! I wear Black for weddings and would neever ask my Guest not to!!! I just think FMIL should go a diffrent route.

I agree!!! Your guests are your guests. They aren't taking pictures with the bride or the bridal party etc. etc.

i think its weird for the mothers to wear the same color as the bm - if i was a mother i would want to be unique and have my own color - i dont get it?

i dont think youre wrong, its your wedding! if you dont want them to wear black i would tell them nicely somehow..

my bm's are wearing black also.. and FMIL wants to wear black and white i think.. i said it was fine.. i dont really think she'll be in too many pics with the bm's or anything.. so i dont see it being a problem.. she said she wants to 'compliment' the bridal party colors.. i dont really care either way lol. i think my mom is wearing red.. which is our accent color.

its def better that she is wearing black and not wearing some outrageous dress, or trying to steal the spotlight!

I thinnk it is a big deal. How many people will be wearing black? Is this a funeral or a wedding. Listen I am most comfortable in black, but it is one day. Lots of people who attend the wedding will be wearing black and it will look like everyone is blending in. Unless you are trying for the 'Goth' Look...ask her to change.

Its funny your FMIL looks just like my FMIL!!!

She really shouldn't wear black being that your bridesmaids are but if she insists i would say let her. No one is really going to pay that much attention to her dress anyway, everyone will be focusing on you!! If she wears white, then there's a huge problem. NO ONE should wear white to a wedding, it's your day not hers and she needs to recognize that. Have your FH say something to her!!

this is what I am fearing!!! my girls are wearing black gowns with taupe...i wouldn't mind if my mom wore it, but I don't feel it's appropriate for FMIL to match the girls.....I think she should def. wear a different color. if it wil cause a lot of probs, it's not worth the hassle then.

No we are NOT going for a Goth look.. I dont think black means funeral-
However my BM's are wearing dresses that are accented with a sash of Fuschia..

I don't think it's a big deal if she wears black, HOWEVER, if you prefer her not to she should respect that.

Sorry sweetie I think you should let her wear the black. Alot of people wear black because they say it sliming. I dont think it should matter im sure alot of other women not in the bridal party will wear black.

Honestly I told both my FMIL and my aunt that whatever they want to wear is fine since I have arranged for cream colored corsages for them.

I would let them wear what they want to- my FMIL is acutally wearing lavender (which is going with my purple/lavender theme) whereas my aunt is wearing w/e she wants to wear (like I care anyhow...lol)

I understand what you're saying and I don't think it's Bridezilla-ish at all. I wouldn't want my mom or FMIL to wear the same color as my BMs. I want my BMs, as well as the moms, to stand out, so they could stand out more if they wore different colors. JMO
