FMIL Day of dress?

Original post by Kimbalina

Ok so my BM's are wearing BLACK for the wedding, Dresses have not been picked out yet,, (hopefully this week or next). But MY mom said that she will not wear BLACK because she doesnt want to blend in with the bridal party in the pictures (I agreed), since my sisters and Fh sisters are part of the bridal party. I appreciated that.... but now FMIL wants to wear BLACK.. I explained what my mom said to FMIL and she said 'oh ok so then if she's not wearing it I will'

I dont want her to wear Black,,,, or White do you think I am right or wrong?

Please don't take what I said the wrong way. I think it is very fine from bridemaids to wear them. Whether they have a sash or not. I wear black almost everyday and ever party becasue that is what makes me feel comfortable and thin :). I think it can also be elegant if a bridal party wears it because it is formal. But for a mother-in-law, I do feel it is a bit funeralish. Is she morning to loss of her son to you. I just always thought it was an insult for a mother in law to wear black, like a widow wearing red to a funeral.
I just agreed with you and thought you were right to want her not to wear it.
I went to a wedding where the bridesmaids were in black and the bride kind asked the guest if they could not wear black. I did not know she wanted this and found out a year later that she wanted this and what did I wear...BLACK lol.

my FMIL wants to wear red.
not that it matters to her, but the bridal party will be in sage green.
My mom is kinda heavy and wants to wear a dark slimming color like navy or plum. i told her that's fine, or she can do black if she wants.

i guess it doesn't matter, but the pix with FMIL in it will look funny. That's ok. i don't mind keeping those to a minimum.

I am not a fan of black for weddings, howver many moms for some reason prefer black. So I vote let her wear it, cause hey... it's better than white!

I don't think it's a big deal if she wears black, HOWEVER, if you prefer her not to she should respect that.

Exactly - its your day and you have a certain vision. Who is she to ruin it- haha
