FMIL or Future Monster-In-Law?

FMIL or Future Monster-In-Law?

I always jokingly say that my FMIL is like FMIL in the movie Monster-In-Law, because she's very controlling, well today she proved to me she really is like her. She emailed me to let me know that she is wearing a cream colored dress to my wedding! Now doesn't cream sound awfully close to the ivory that I'm wearing! I'm not going to say anything though everybody else in the world knows you never do that, so she'll just look dumb.

Anybody else's FMIL wearing white or 'cream' to their weddings? I'd love to hear your stories too.

Just don't punch her in the face like in the movie!

i would tell her that you want to be the only one wearing that color for the wedding. or get FH to do that. i'd kill FMIL if she did that!

That is soooooooooooo annoying! Dont let it get you down...nobody is going to be looking at her anyway!

My mom is wearing a dark cream. I don't mind b/c it's my mom, but I might be uncomfortable if my FMIL wore ivory. Especially one that matched my dress!

I vaguely recall someone else with a problem like that, but it was her mom in florida? at any rate, I agree with others, don't fight the monster.... what she's doing is rude, and she likely will get odd glances the entire day... but those will be the only looks she will be getting. It definitely isn't competition with you

Now that is just wrong - simply wrong!! I would say something or have your FH talk to her

dont even let her get to you! You will be the gorgeous bride, there will be no mistaking you...if anyone at the wedding finds her dress color inappropriate it will only make HER look silly! Depending on the actual color and type of dress you should be fine though! Remember it is your day, if she really is a MONSTER in law- she probably just wants you to get upset about it- PROVE her wrong- dont let her see you sweat!

I guess you really just have to pick and choose your battles, especially when it comes to Monster in laws. Is this one of those things that you can over look and chalk it up to her trying to get under your skin or is it something that you feel will make very unhappy on your wedding day. If it will then you need to address it, talk to FH and then maybe he can talk to her. This way it isn't in a confrontational way, it's coming from her son.
When my FMIL told me that she was going to start looking for dresses, before she could finish her sentence I said 'well what color are you looking for OTHER THAN Ivory, white, cream, Lavender or Sage' she almost fell out of her chair but she got the point. Now we just argue about everything else, lol. GL

my FMIL use to hate me until i had my daughter (her granddaughter). before i got pregnant she told me i needed to seek mental help, she was just stuck up and thought i wasnt good enough for her son. i feel like she is just nice to me now because she has to, cuz if she aint nice to me than there will be tension and she wants to be on my good side to be able to see her granddaughter (which i wouldnt stop her from seeing her gma no matter what anyways). but i secretly dont like her either, she knew i didnt like her inreturn a yr ago, but now we just pretend we do. im glad my FH's parents are divorced though, because we live with his father and if she was here id go nuts!!!!

oh and my FMIL is wearing her old wedding gown but dying it lavendar!! she is such a wierdo, all eyes are supposed to be on me not her. i dunno why she would wear her old wedding dress. and she gave me a list of about 60 ppl to invite to MY wedding expecting me to do so. i was not willing to pay for all her friends! i told her NO!

Maybe email her back and mention that you were a little surprised she choose cream, especially since the two of you will match. She might picture your dress as bright white and her cream dress might be more of a beige....

eeek! If she doesn't change her mind, don't worry, all eyes will be on you and the only ones on her will be rolling

I would tell her don't even bother showing up at the wedding - does she not realize she's trying to upstage the bride!?!?!?!

........I would want to, but I really wouldn't. But my FH would flip out on her and he would probably tell her that if she didn't change the color of her dress, she wouldn't be on the guest list. He won't allow his mom to pull any of that sh!t with me b/c it's a slap in the face to both me and him

I'm just going to let her wear the dress...she'll be the one to look like a fool, everybody knows you don't match the bride at a wedding!

Re: FMIL or Future Monster-In-Law?

I had Vinny tell his Mom that she could not wear navy/saphire blue because my Mom was thinking about choosing that color and the Bride's Mom gets first dibs on color choice.

So, then she thought perhaps Red which was a problem because my girls are wearing Red so, again, Vinny told her no.

Then, my Mom ended up choosing a black evening gown so I said you could have the blue you wanted so much then... She chose brown

It was like gee, as soon as I tell her she can have the color she wanted so badly that Vinny told he no at first for- she went with something totally different! LOL odd.

But, when we were at the store looking Vin's sister and I were sorting through dresses and his Mom approached us with an ivory gown- very close to white- too close to white- and I said NOTHING because I wanted to see what his sister would say first and she goes: Mom, it's not your day-- that's no good.

LOL I was like oh thank God I didn't have to say anything...

BUT the point being: I would have! I would have said and I think you should say: honestly, I'm not a fan of the ivory or cream choice only because I'm wearing ivory (maybe if I was wearing white- white it would be different) but I'm wearing ivory and it's really too close, in my opinion.

And see what she says.
