Sooo.... Last night, me and FH go out to dinner w/ his parents, and start talking about the wedding. Next week, we are going to look at various halls. My #1 choice is Venetian Yacht club. Anyways, she asked me if I started looking for a hall yet. I explained that next week I'm going to look. Her response?? 'don't you think it's a little ridiculous to book the hall now for 2009'? I say: 'Most people getting married in 2009 already booked...I'm actually a little bit behind '. She says... ' Well, ANYTHING can happen from now until 2009, so I think you should wait. After all, why would you want to lose all that money?'!!! Now, that can be interpreted many different ways, but ladies, the WAY she said it, it was almost as if she was insinuating that we were going to break up!! Even FH thought that that was what she meant!!! I was livid last night, and am still livid today! THEN she asked me about the BP. I have not asked anyone yet officially, except for my 2 sisters. I told her who I was thinking of asking. Yes, I know that 9 girls are alot, but that's what I want. Her response? ' Why would you want such a big bridal party for? It looks ridiculous'.
How did I not slap her???

Good thing you held you restraint. I'm booked for 2009. I booked early because it gave me allot of flexibity in terms of choosing a date that I wanted. Pay her no mind & move forward with your plans.

Re: FMIL vent...(Sorry ladies)
this is something you're gonna have to get used to for the next two years unfortunately for some reason, a lot of fmil's really like to give their opinions...that's how mine is...but I definitely understand why you'd be offended....another thing, older folks tend to be behind on the whole wedding thing, when I just got engaged, my parents thought I could swing an entire wedding with a $5,000 budget! Also, I got engaged this january and I wanted to get married in june 08 (exactly a year and a half away) so right after I got engaged, I wanted to look at all of my fav. places asap so that they wouldn't get booked up...when I mentioned this to my father, he was like 'I think a year and a half is way too early, you can do that the year of the wedding' !!! So basically, he expected me to book a place at most 6 months before the wedding! Sometimes I swear the next generation is from another planet!

That's horrible - Im so sorry to hear that! I dont understand why many people do not think before they speak ! I know it may be hard but Im happy you didnt attack her - it could only make things worse, stand up for what you believe in and as hard as it may be just let the dumb *** remarks roll off your shoulders bc some people thrive on seeing others stress! (as horrible as it sounds) Kill them with kindess - thats my motto & it seems to work - Im also have a HUGE bridal party - but thats the way I want it - I want all my close friends involved - if people dont like that tough - it's my day - just like it's YOUR day - not mommy dearest - dont let her get you down - enjoy every moment because you'll never get this time back!

OMG I'm so mad for you and every bride dealing with the BS from the FMIL. Your FH should tell her to back off a little, do whatever you want its your day.

OMG... I can't believe that! I wouldn't have been able to hold back, especially since I am having a large bridal party too... 9 BM's and 1 MOH! lol I probably would've said well fine, then i'm not including FH's sisters just to piss her off, lol
But as was said before... it's better to book early, you get the best prices, best choice of date, and most of the vendors are available so you have your pick of that too! Absolutely nothing wrong with booking 2 years in advanced! I booked in 2006.. I had to have my 8/8/08 date, and didn't want to be limited to my RH site and vendors!
And how wonderful will it be to prove her wrong when you and FH are happily married?

That's awful, good job not slapping her! Explain to her that you save tons of money booking early because you get the rate for the hall before it goes up!

I feel so bad for you. That is horrible for her to say. You are good for not going back at her with comments like that. WOW she would hate my Bridal party since I'm going to have 12 girls. LOL...Always remember to do what you and your fh want. It is your day and not anyone else's.
