Fondant or Buttercream??

Fondant or Buttercream??

I know its a tad early to be worrying about these details! But what is everyone planning on doing for their wedding cake? Our RH does not provide a cake so we are on our own! I just love the look of fondant but have heard mixed reviews about the taste!

I am personally not a fan of fondant taste so I think we plan on doing buttercream, but I know a lot of designs can't be done with buttercream so it's like a catch 22!

I personally like the look of fondant. Are you going to have other sweets beside the cake? Sometimes people are so stuffed they can't even eat the cake!

Fondant looks better but doesnt taste as good as buttercream to me anyways!

I think fondant looks better and u can do so many designs with it, but u can do some good things with buttercream too and it tastes a million times better!!!

I love how fondant looks so I'll be using it.. Most bakeries can leave a thick layer of buttercream underneath so you can get the best of both worlds!

I'm in the same boat! Our cake comes with the RH package we got but they typically use buttercream (charge extra for fondant). I was going to see if they could use fresh whipped cream instead...much sweeter, lighter taste than buttercream.

Buttercream all the way!!

I don't like the taste of fondant OR buttercream even though I'm a giant sweet tooth lol....we'll probably end up with buttercream because the cake is included with Fox Hollow, who also gives out an entire different dessert in addition to our candy bar - so basically guests will be fed and enjoy no matter what

THIS! I totally agree. I specifically requested fresh whipped cream.

This!

I have yet to have a fondant cake that I've enjoyed. The fondant is too sweet and the cake is always dry. We will be going with Buttercream!

I too am at the Fox Hollow and I know Buttercream is included. I like the cake but I think fondant looks much cleaner. However though i have been leaning more toward using butter cream just because I want designs on it. Although I am a summer wedding and buttercream can melt... AHHH I am so torn like you guys. Thank god i don't need to make a decision any time soon. lol

I love the look for fondant but it tastes gross. I make fondant cakes a lot because I love baking and creating things but it kills me to watch everyone peel off the fondant and just eat the cake! lol at the hall its an extra charge but I might do it just for the looks, but I think butter cream tastes much better.

Cousin had a whipped cream frosted cake at WM and it looked gorgeous and tasted very light and airy. It wasn't as heavy and overly sweet like buttercream can be.

Fresh whipped won't be able to sit out for too long so be careful.

Fondant is gross in taste.
However, unless the decorater is amazing, fondant looks 100% better then buttercream.

AS long as the wedding cake is indoors, the buttercream should be fine! It only melted for us when the oven was on at the bakery.. and we kept it out all summer! LOL
