Food Saver question

Does anyone have the Food Saver?

I want to vacuum seal strawberries and chopped rhubarb and freeze them.

Can I just wash, chop, and vacuum them or do I need to do something special to preserve them?

THANKS!

I've never used the Food Saver but I have freezed fruit before (strawberries, blueberries) - I didn't wash them first though...I just put them in freezer bags.

You have to freeze them first and then put them in a bag and vacuum seal. Otherwise they're pretty much ****ed and flattened.

DH learned the hard way when he tried to vacuum seal a loaf of bread

Re: Food Saver question

i dont' know if it has special settings! i guess i have to read the manual. we just got it as a wedding gift, and so far we've vaccuumed some steak and some cheddar cheese. oh yeah, the first thing we vacuumed was our wedding cake, but my sister did that for us while we were on our HM. and we froze that first, so i guess it makes sense i should freeze the berries and rhubarb first, huh?

thanks for your help!
