For all those brides and bride-to-be's who are around the 5' mark, what style dress have you chosen? As you may have read, I had a mini-meltdown after my first shopping day and had been going in the completly wrong direction. If any of you have pics, please post! I want to get an idea of what someone my size would look like in a dress as opposed to the 6'+ models in all the magazines Thanks a bunch!

Re: For all the little brides - I need help
I think a-line dresses flatter all shapes and sizes. Other than that the only thing I have heard is that if you are short you shouldn't go for a mermaid style dress.

I'm little--5'--and I got an a-line dress. I originally wanted a straight cut dress, but I couldn't find one I like. My advice is to try on as much as you can because you never know. They make all bridal gowns for women that are about 5'9' because it is easier to shorten a dress than it is to lengthen it.

My best friend is 4'11' and when she got married, she wore an A-line dress with a medium-length train and she looked absolutely gorgeous. I went with her to try on dresses and she tried on a few with very full skirts and she looked like a bell, or a tiny upper body struggling to escape from a giant skirt! Stick with A-line or straight, fitted dresses (no mermaid like erdbeere said).

I had an a-line ball gown. To make me appear taller, the bustier part of my dress was a bit longer. To make my torso appear longer.....it made me look less frumpy......and short. Check out my review for pics.....there is a snapfish link. I am terrible at posting pics.

I'm 5-2 ish; one thing I was told and I found is very true: don't get too much of a design on the bottom of the dress in front. My original gown has a lot of embroidery on the front of the dress (see album) but I bought a new dress (long story!) that has only a border on the bottom and it is much more flattering.
good luck!

I'm 5' 2'' ish and also got an A line, with the fitted and longer bodice. I tried on most of the different types and it is definately the most flattering. Good Luck

Really? I never heard of this. I wonder why? Because it will draw attention to where the gown ends and make you look shorter? I gotta check that out next time I go....

For some reason my mom and my sister agreed that this on me made my legs look shorter.... I loved the look on top cuz it makes the torso longer but I guess then the skirt part is noticably shorter

I am 5'1 - 5'2 and i wore a ball gown dress with pickups, i had 3 inch heals all night.
in most bridal magazines they have a section for each body type and what dress will flatter you best. THey say for your height a-line is best

Re: For all the little brides - I need help
My best friend is 4/10 and we had the worst time finding a style that flattered because she was hung up on mermaid and lot of design at the hem but it cut her in half. The derss she chose which is AMAZING btw is a simple white satin aline with no emboridery or bells and whistles in the front except for this beautiful lace sash that sits almost empire styel starting narrow and then slowl widens and in the back it falls into a waterfall of lace and beautiful sequins that just gives the WOW factor when she turns around. but the front of the dress is very plain and she actually looks much taller and Much slimmer than she is.

The longer bodice can make your legs look shorter. It works if you have a short torso, otherwise, it will make you look a bit stumpy.

I am also very tiny and my FH is 6'3 and I didn't want to feel little all night so I ordered these shoes (they are so comfy -- I should know, i put them on every night when i get home b/c i love them so much) and give me quite a lift. I got them at www.shoes-to-match.com

I wore them previously and they are SOOOO comfortable. I was the only one who didn't take off their shoes.

Re: For all the little brides - I need help
My friend is close to 5'0' and she's wearing a mermaid style dress, and it looks fantastic on her! It's similar to a Marisa style dress I saw at Bridal Reflections. I was trying to find a picture for you the other day, but didn't have any luck. It has a blush pink sash. I've heard mermaid isn't good for shorter girls, but I think it looks amazing on her.
Your best bet is to just try on every different style of dress you can find. You never know what looks best on you until you're actually in it! Good luck!
Oh, and I'm only 5'3' and I'm wearing an A-Line, but with an empire bodice (it has some beading to make it empire, but it's fitted down to my hips).
ETA - I found the Marisa that looks like her dress.
I am only 5'1 and I am wearing a mermaid...it was the only dress that looked amazing on me. I know some girls say mermaid doesnt look good on shorter girls but i really hink u need to try every style on!
