For all the little brides - I need help

Original post by smplynluv

For all those brides and bride-to-be's who are around the 5' mark, what style dress have you chosen? As you may have read, I had a mini-meltdown after my first shopping day and had been going in the completly wrong direction. If any of you have pics, please post! I want to get an idea of what someone my size would look like in a dress as opposed to the 6'+ models in all the magazines Thanks a bunch!

I am only 5'1 and I am wearing a mermaid...it was the only dress that looked amazing on me. I know some girls say mermaid doesnt look good on shorter girls but i really hink u need to try every style on!

I think mermaid style looks good on a lot of short girls. It all depends on your proportions though. If your torso is longer, then I don't think it's the style for you. I even spoke to someone who is a seamstress who has said that mermaid style looks great on smaller brides with the proper proportions because it has a tendency to elongate.

I'm little!! I'm 5'4' and about 110 lbs. I wore a halter top dress with an A-line bottom, I loved it and wish I could wear it again!!!!!!

I also had a detachable train bc I didn't want to have a big bustle for my small frame, but they're hard to find. Here are 2 pics:

I’m 5 feet and my dress is a ball gown and I have beadwork on the bottom front.
The only thing I was told to look for was a shorter bodice….not a drop waist.
The appliqué on the bottom front was ordered separately. Then when the dress comes in I can hem it to my height and then the store will put on the appliqué.
Next time you go dress see if that is a possibility.

I'm 5'2 and wore a strapless ballgown with beading accenting my waist. I tried a-line dresses at first b/c I thought i'd be lost in a ballgown but it ended up looking the best.

Try on every style before making a decision.

I'm 4'11 and I loved my gown! I think it actually made me look tallish I also wore 3 1/2 inch heels for a little boost!

I am 5'2'' with a small bone structure. I wore an A-line dress but I also tried on some sheeth dresses. The princess dresses tended to overpower me.

pics in album. My dress was a ballgown. I am only 4'11' and was afraid that this style of dress might not look right, but it was perfect!

i'm just about 5 feet, and i had a v-neck a-line dress... my mom actually made it for me lol so i can't help with a designer, but i can show you the general style...

~5' 1', my dress was A-line & strapless. Pics in album. Honestly though, it really depends on your body type. I'm a little busty so ball gowns and halters looked awful on me. And I tried every style on just to be sure.

I'm 5'1. My dress is a sheath. I would agree with the other posts that say try on every style. You have to keep going. I ended up in about 5 different dresses. Just keep in mind that too much poof is probable a nono. Good Luck!

I'm 4'11'. I had a hollow to hem on my dress so that I wouldn't lose the details on the bottom

I really dont know if its true in the general sense, but I did hear mermaid style is not good for shorter girls, and A-line or princess ballgown style looks best.

I know when I went to Estelles and tried on a mermaid gown just for the heck of it (im 5'2) it overwhelmed me!! It seemed like it maybel wasnt as flattering as A-line or princess cut., but you never know maybe if you found the right mermaid style it could look great!!

awww. i know how you feel. i'm 5'3 and compared to the girls the dresses were 'made for' i feel like a shrimp. some of the gowns actually make me look like i'm much shorter than i am.

i feel that a soft A-line works best, and gowns that have beading that goes into a point on the waist lengthens as well as slims.

hope that helps.
i'm sure you'll look amazing in anything you choose.
it might sound mean but i dont want it too... but all your friends and family KNOW that you're on the shorter side, no one will be surprised that you are short if you know what i mean.

plus a lot of designers have you order the gown from hollow to hem which makes the dress in perfect proportion to your height!

Mine was form fitting with a transparent, lace, a-line overlay... I didn't get lost in it! Pics in album...
