Hey-
I went to see the priest about one month ago. He did ask if we were living together but did not ask us if we were having sex. It was a really laid back kind of thing... asked what we did, how we met, how we work through problems, what we liked and dont like about each other. Things like that. Wanted to know our familys histories and if we would be willing to raise children catholic. I think in pre cana (if your catholic) they start asking more in depth questions. FM me if you want to know more.

I told FH that when we meet w/ the priest and if lying needs to be done then I will volunteer because I'm Jewish and my religion doesn't believe in hell. I can just starve myself on yom kippur and all will be right with the world again.

I met with the priest a while back. He didn't ask any questions about sex, but some priests do. He asked where we received our sacraments, what religion our parents were, if they had been divorced, if we ever received counsling, if we were planning on raising the children catholic...things like that. He said there would be a more in depth discussion as we got closer to the wedding, but that was all he needed to know for now to see if we qualified to get married at church.

I was scared of those questions too. I don't think I could lie to a priest. I think they ask the sex question at pre-cana though (cant spell)

Well, if they do ask it at pre-cana it looks like I'll be at confession the following week

FH and I went for to a meeting at the church and it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be.

The priest asked us few questions about our views on marriage, how we were raised, etc. then asked each of us to leave the room so he can speak to the other alone and he asked us about our relationship and if we're entering this willingly but our priest is soooo nice it was totally painless!

Good luck!!

not that i know of- thats what i thought also- i'm not sure if u have your hall yet but dont tell him that u have your hall-the priest doesnt want to hear that- thats what i was told

This actually scares the crap out of me too. I have to do a lot of lying... we live together! But I don't think they refuse anyone.

The Deacon who is going to marry us didn't ask if we were living together or if we have sex. He didn't bat an eyelash when we put down the same address either. The way I look at it is that if they turned away every couple living together or having sex, they'd be out of the wedding business...

The questions they ask aren't difficult either... so you really can't answer them incorrectly... you know what they want to hear, so go with that. Once you're all done, you'll be like 'what was I so worried about?'

Yup exactly. His parish is now St Brigids in Westbury, and I heard they were real strict. Another friend of mine who is an 07 bride has to do pre cana every Friday!!!!

ours asked if we kknew of any problems that would preventus from having children. But we just said no hahha

Everything else was basic.

But he did ask if either of us have been in counseling. he says they ask that to see if you are mentally healthy as well.

It depends on what question you answer...

FYI: they will not ask you about your sex life...
they probably won't ask you fi you live together, etc. etc.

but they will ask if you and/or FH have received your sacraments, if you will raise your children catholic and whether or not either of you has been previously married. if any of these applies to you, you may not be able to get married in the Catholic church until you receive your Confirmation (one of you has to have that), you agree ot rasie your Children Catholic and if one of you was married and divorced, you have received an annulment. if you are inter-faith, you need a dispensation and you must attend Pre-Cana.
those are the onyl reasons that I know of that they wouldn't let you get married in the Church--- at least initially.... if you need to do any of the above, once that's completed, you're all set....

(Other reasons that might not marry you is if you or FH are too young, or are related (it's crazy, but they do check that!!!.... but this usually doesn't apply to most people!!)

YOU'LL BE fine... working with the Church has been among the best part of my wedding plans... )
