Opinions are like a$$holes...everyone's got one. If they aren't complaining that its too short an engagement then its too long an engagement or why did you get engaged so soon or why did you wait so long to get engaged...

...you have to do what's right for you, especially if you two are paying for it.

My mom still tells me that I'm 'inconveniencing everyone with this wedding' and I remind her that she has not been inconvenienced, I've only asked her to pick out a dress and she's fought me the whole way.

She's been the only one who is a pain about it.

oh how horrible! how can a wedding be an inconvenience?

I though my mom was bad, she just doesnt like anything I am doing and just say 'if thats what you want' and 'I dont know why you are having another wedding- you were married once before'

I think a year is enough time to plan a wedding. I actually wish we only had a year engagement because I am anxious as it is! I give credit to you girls who have been engaged for 2-3 years...I'd freak out from waiting

A year is plenty of time. I booked the RH in the end of April and have been sitting on my butt ever since. Haven't booked anything else since. A lot of girls on LIW book things way in advance, but there's a good amount of us who haven't yet - you've got time!

My mom likes to be in control. She's one of those people who you have to let think she came up with an idea when it was yours all along. She wanted us to wait until she was ready for us to get married. Eff that. I just keep telling her to stop saying that I'm inconveniencing everyone when she can't speak for everyone and all were happy for us. Speak for yourself.

No one did and we also paid for it ourselves....but I stressed myself out by only giving myself 7 mos to plan it. So if you don't get stress from others you most certainly give it to yourself then

We got engaged October 08 and are getting married October 09. Exactly 1 year. We felt why wait? It has only been hard as far as making decisions. I feel a little pressured for time to get things done and I feel that I'm making quick decisions-hope they turn out ok. The upside is that time flies!

Thank you everyone for all of your responses! I definitely think that a year is enough time to plan.

I had to laugh at that one...that would totally be my grandmothers opinion if she was still alive!!

But back to the the original post.......it is your wedding, and you need to do what is convenient for you. You cant make everyone happy all the time, so you might as well make yourself happy.......right?!?!?!

Everyone has an opinion... ignore them and do what is best for you and FH.
