For Kathi - priests' names
Hi Kathi, I came across these two names in my notes - Fr. Henry (or it may be Henery)a retired priest in NYC (212) 594 2069. Also Fr. Fehrenbacher in NYC (212) 594 2069. I had gotten their names from various posts on theknot.com but I never actually ended up speaking with either gentelmen. I also had the name of one other priest in LI - I'll get back to you with that one. Good Luck

The priest who`s marrying us . . .
I`m getting at my reception site and had a hard time finding a priest who would travel there, but a friend recommended Father Brennan, who married her and her husband plus another couple she knows. If you`d like to try calling him, his number is 516-485-0616. Good luck!!!

Kathi...
No, we`re just having Father Brennan. It`s really more to make both of our families happy. They weren`t thrilled that we weren`t getting married at Church, but finding Father Brennan eased things. :) Lots of luck!!!

Kathi... to Karen T. re: Father Brennan
Karen, Have you met with Father Brennan? I was just curious b/c we sound like we're in similar boats. I too, am not getting married in a church all both sides of the family weren't too thrilled. We've had the hardest time trying to find someone who can perform our ceremony and that we feel comfortable with. I spoke with Father Brennan and felt pretty good about it. My mother's side of the family is very leary however, about using someone who's a priest but is no longer part of the roman catholic church. Would you mind giving me some feedback on how you feel about Father Brennan and if you've met with him? Thank you so much!

Thanks Kathi... I was a little confused myself about if he was part of a church or what the deal was but, anyone I've talked to from a roman catholic church has been truly, unbelievably unhelpful. Since I'm catholic and my FI is methodist they basically say that we must get married in a church or they won't 'recognize' our marriage. In other words, they see no reason why we shouldn't do it in a church (we feel there are many). If my FI was jewish this would be no problem so I don't quite understand their 'rules'. At this point, I feel very discouraged and feel like I'm being pushed away from my church just because I don't want to get married where they say I have to. So, perhaps I'll end up just using a justice of the peace. Either way, it looks like there will be no one I find that can make both families happy... good luck and I'll keep you posted as well.

You know what I just found out...in Europe I guess (Poland I know for sure, unless it has changed in the last 5 years) that you get married by the state and then go to the church after the marriage and get blessed by the church. This is supposedly in a RC church too...I guess Poland doesn't allow the church to be the 'marrier.' I think it is kind of strange that you absolutely *have* to be married in the church. I love my religion but I have always felt there are some strange things or 'rules.' So, I wonder if you could ask about that? Could you get the church's blessing after marriage by the state?! Nancy

My fiance actually spoke with Father Brennan and booked him without me even speaking with him. I spoke with him once afterwards and thought he seemed fine. But, then again, neither of us really care whether we're married by a priest, a rabbi or a ship's captain - we booked him just for the sakes of our families so we could say we have a Catholic priest. We still never met him in person and we probably won't until the day of the wedding. All I want is a very short, simple ceremony. I do know other people who were married by him and were happy with him. He was actually recommended by the Riviara, which is where one of the couples I know got married. And it`s really hard to find a Catholic priest who will marry you outside of his Church. The only other thing we found was Catholic Priests of the Federation of Christian Ministries, which I saw an ad for in a magazine, but know nothing at all about, so we felt weird about that. Sorry he wasn`t what you were looking for! Lots of luck to you both!!!
